So what’s your mail about why we failed? My mail was that Rowell was locked in. They were super confident that he would have been playing for us in 2026 as was most of the competition

Also depending on where we see Smith playing longer term I could also see us picking up a state league defender or DFA that’s bigger than Dean.I think the hope is that in essence McInnes would be another 'in'
We can organise picks to get a gun defender, it’s just that we need to prioritise getting a gun mid next to naicos. He's the perfect fit. We can't afford a gun KD and don't have picks to compete for the real gun Defenders. He would come for free and his 1 on 1 work is just as good if not better than the big name Defenders. I hope we get him because we need him
The most attractive part about SOS is that he's free and that would allow us to use other means to get a good midWe can organise picks to get a gun defender, it’s just that we need to prioritise getting a gun mid next to naicos.
Hope we can convince butters to come to us.

Yep - and I’m also hoping Howe stays on another yearI think that's why we're targeting SOS
BeauThink one of pez or beau will need to make the permanent leap to the midfield next year.
We are paying pez 900k , don’t think you would do that if you don’t see him as a full time mid.Beau
Room for bothWe are paying pez 900k , don’t think you would do that if you don’t see him as a full time mid.
Jack Silvagni …

He’s a plodder.
There, I said it. Don’t come @ me.
ROB from Adelaide resigned today.
He was so closeRe-signed?
Do any of these players have Silvagni’s aerial game?Jeez the carryon over a slow, injury prone and undersized KPD who’s had one good season out of ten is a bit much! Is it due to the fascination around list management? Or the fact he’s currently a Carlton footballer?
Silvagni certainly doesn’t scream a great fit at Collingwood to me and perhaps even a questionable allocation of resources given Ryan, Cochrane, McInnes and TJ are all contracted for at least 2026. It feels a bit like the Doedee move by Brisbane to me.
None. Everyone was surprised it didn’t happen. So what’s your mail about why we failed?
His brother has filled out nicely, no reason TJ can’t too. But I agree, we need a genuine key defender and Silvagni has shown he can play the role.I doubt TJ will ever be strong enough. Even Cochrane is looking more like a runner than a tall. I don't think we've got a kpd coming through.
Silvagni was good down back. He was marking the footy and kicking it beautifully.
Going by Carlton’s injury profile I think their conditioning programs are more of a concern than Jacks body. The only concern is the bad injury history for me. He was Carltons best defender in the games he played from what I saw and his athletic traits should do well in our system
$700k is the equivalent of what $500k was a few years ago in the new CBA. The Blues will get band 3 compo for him at best with that salary. It’s really not a huge outlay and will likely barely be the average player salary by the end of his deal.Yeah, I’m ambivalent. Would be very handy depth if coming cheaply but the suggested $700k doesn’t equate to that. Would prefer we persist with McInnes who is a similar size.
100% true, I PM a poster who was interested in the info I had at the time. Pies & Dogs were the two he was tossing up, his mum a Blues supporter wasn’t happy that they didn’t approach him. By the way his mum (LR) pulls all the strings. I’ll leave it at that.If there is any substance to the Rowel rumours, it's good to see the club is targeting midfield 'beasts' to replace Mitchell and help the Daicos bros!
CJ has a pretty skinny core, gets pushed aside pretty easily - all the Sudanese players do really - it's the awesome athleticism and ability to come over the top that enables Andrew and Aliir to play as talls. His brother has filled out nicely, no reason TJ can’t too. But I agree, we need a genuine key defender and Silvagni has shown he can play the role.
Yeah his speed is a definite concern for me.Jeez the carryon over a slow, injury prone and undersized KPD who’s had one good season out of ten is a bit much! Is it due to the fascination around list management? Or the fact he’s currently a Carlton footballer?

None of the players you mentioned are ready to step in and play on key fwds next season.Jeez the carryon over a slow, injury prone and undersized KPD who’s had one good season out of ten is a bit much! Silvagni is undersized as a KPD as well like Howe, but without the athleticism so fits in that NQR hybrid defender category.Silvagni is miles better than those players, only 2 of whom can actually play key back
We aren’t talking pure key defence. It’s that Mihocek/ West size that’s undersized in a key role and all of them fit into that category.None of the 4 players listed are guaranteed to make it, and if we’re talking key defence I don’t really know why Ryan is even in the conversation. TJ, maybe given his long arms could play taller, but Ryan, nah.
I’ve never minded JSOS, he has reasonably good hands and he was having somewhat of a breakout year in defence this year. As a third tall I think he’d work well for us assuming Howe pulls stumps this year. Probs a bit OTT comparing him to a bloke coming off multiple knee recos, and we all know how bad Carlton’s high performance team are. I’d back Wade and co to get him right.
We don’t know yet, but how good is Silvagni’s aerial game really? It’s definitely not to the standard of Howe’s.Do any of these players have Silvagni’s aerial game?
The closest are probably Ryan and TJ are probably the two furthest from being key position players atm.
I’m not sure 4 players, 3 of which are in our bottom ten and who’ve played a total of 5 games in our defence are going to dictate how we build our best 23 next season.
