Happy hour $1 pots. That’s how we bought houses
There used to be a few places that did a happy hour with an hour of free beer. We had a Thursday night route that got you 3 hours of free beer, where the last place you'd stock pile them and were drinking warm flat free beer a couple of hours later.

However, in the good years leading up to the recession, interest rates on home loans would have been below 5%, whilst you were still getting 10% on savings, it had to come to a head
FFS this just didn't happen(unless you had previously locked a rate away). What you are describing is a risk-free arbitrage. It's an impossibility.

I can't stick around here, before I know it I will end up like you lot sitting on a porch complaining about kids these days and smoking Winnie Blues and talking about interest rates. I can't do that, I'm still young, with pinchable firm buttocks and a certain louche twinky grace. I'm not ready for dad bod.

My favourite happy hour had to be the Mosman Rowers. 70 cents off every drink. Those fools never worked out that clever Victorians drinking 7oz glasses were doing way better than stupid North Shore dickheads with their schooners.

My apologies. I just remembered that we did lock in a rate for the mortgage. I'm going back a long time ago. Instead of being rude, why can't you talk with respect. You're still wrong about the interest rates, which I showed you proof for and was the jist of my post. Grannie just posted that her first loan was 7.5%, which you said had to be 13% or more. Either respond with respect or don't respond at all.

There goes another kid with stars in his eyes who suddenly realised that he wasn't prepared to earn his sugar.

Geelong Bitter? (free stuff)... similar deal at the metro night club - $10 all you could drink

Think I ran out of respect after about attempt number 10 at explaining the basic principle of bank funding. You still don't get it.

Are you seriously still holding on to that when I've given proof to the contrary. You need help I'm afraid. Might be best to stop responding to me because I have more important things to worry about than you

in the late 60's my parents bought a new housing commission place for 13k. they moved 60kms to find something they could afford which was a long way from Melb CBD. Dad was on about 2k a year. So roughly 6.5 x his wage.

Today you can get an entry level house and land package in the outer suburbs (from Bonnie Brook to Melton) from 500 - 650k. Roughly 5 x the ABS listed average income in 2025.

People don't want to live where they can afford.
I blame the anti-pineapple mother****ers. The whole country has become snobs. Too snobby to live in a daggy suburb. Pineapple in or on anything used to be fancy. And I still remember being blown away by a workplace that had blend 43 rather than international roast. Now no one will touch it.

Workplaces who treated their staff right had these

At least it's better than being rude I suppose.
