I’ve always really disliked Maynard, he belongs in the punchable head thread. That said I also didn’t like Caleb Daniel so it’s probably bound to happen.

He's not the most likeable dude but for where we're at you just don't say no to a player like him.

Heart-and-soul Magpie Brayden Maynard is happy to play further into the season without a new deal as he comes further to grips with the possibility of leaving Collingwood.

The durable and beloved premiership player is due to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of this year and at 28, could be eyeing the last big contract of his career.

The 211-game defender drew interest from North Melbourne in last year’s trade period and his defensive toughness fits with almost any side in the league.

Maynard said in February he was expecting a deal to be done soon with Collingwood, but now he is focusing on his game, coming off a rare two-goal performance in a thumping win over Port Adelaide on Saturday.

Collingwood brought in rebounding defender Dan Houston and Giants midfielder Harry Perryman on deals around $800-900,000 each, setting a market for Maynard to pursue in negotiations.

“I am going to let my footy do the talking for the next little while,” Maynard told this masthead.

“Like I said a little while ago, I would feel weird in another jumper but it is a business so whatever happens, happens.

“I love Collingwood and we have a great culture here, so we will see what happens.”

Maynard battled a difficult plantar fasciitis injury in pre-season but has played unhampered through Collingwood’s opening two games of the season.

Maynard would be a nice Lmac replacement

I would have no issues giving him 900k a year on a 4 year deal. Would instantly improve our weakest area. Would be a great paring with Archer, imagine those two crazy competitors in our back six. Oppo forwards would be having nightmares.
We're all sick of the same old same old. If the club thought Maynard was the best option re free agents, if LDU is staying, then I assume that we have the salary cap to spare and that we can front load the salary. So let's make it happen.

I try never to watch Collingwood, so, would Maynard take Goater's likely spot or he is a McDonald replacement?

Not ant more they wouldn't. The AFL has made running fast illegal.

Just be aware Brayden you won’t be protected at the tribunal if you Change colours lol, but can play .With Houston and Perryman now there he may leave

He would replace Happy Meal in the current side. If Goater does eventually make it then he would probably be used more as a rebounding defender. Back 6 make-up could look like this:

B: Archer Logue Maynard
HB: Daniel Comben Goater

with Wawson to replace Logue and Mitlock to replace Comben in the next year or two.

You need to pay overs for free agents.

I'd pay him $900k no issues.

We have to pay someone...who are we actually paying? Just Larkey?
He’s 30 next year

750k is overs for a back pocket and slides in around band 2

Giving up band 1 type money would be ridiculous

He turns 30 after the season finishes. Well our season anyway.

Let’s not get sucked in by a top teams average players getting a payday that should belong to the top players.

800/900k for Maynard is excessive.
He's a hard bastard, he makes those around him walk taller and he can defend. We have been crying out for his type exactly. I'm more comfortable giving him 900k than I am Zurhaar

I would assume that he would also scare the living daylights of his own teammates who don't follow team rules or coaching instructions
