I wonder if we're one of the Vic clubs that have enquired about Oli Florent. While not as hard edged as Maynard, we're clearly looking at players in that small to mid height defender role.

And another rebounder / will that be 4 off seasons in a row we’d be bringing in from another club.
Tucker
Fisher
Daniel
Florent ???

Not against florent as long as cheap

apparently every vic club is in for bergman

Other hbf options Judd McVee, budarick and Josh Sinn all out of contract

There were links pre draft from memory. What that means 10 years later?

This just highlights that the AFL salary cap doesn't work. Whether it's because teams can easily pay players outside of it or if it's just not effective as a tool for parity.

Regardless, its supposed to be something that helps teams like North Melbourne. If Matt Rowell is moving to Victoria then he should have limited options because of the salary cap. It should be a choice between $600k from top clubs or $1.2M from clubs like North.

That creates a situation where he either comes to North, or a club like Geelong has to off load good players to a club like North to get Rowell in.

Instead, we offer $1.2M and top clubs can match it.

They need to get rid of the ability to restructure contracts. They need to get rid of this silly front and back loading. It should only be able to vary like 5% per year.

But, ultimately, if you have 38 players on your list and 30 of them take only $50k less then you can add another two players worth $750k each. And a popular and successful club can easily get players and extra $50k of benefits per year outside the cap without being caught.
We want to see more quality players going to the bottom clubs to even out the comp, so perhaps something like:

200k extra in the cap for every year in a row you finish bottom 4 with a max of 1m extra. 200k off each time you make the 8 until back to even.

From today's line up.

B: Logue, Pink, Comben
HB: McDonald, Daniel, O’Sullivan
C: Simpkin, LDU, Stephens
HF: McKercher, Larkey, Powell
F: Zurhaar, Darling, Curtis
Foll: Xerri, Wardlaw, Sheezel
Inter: Fisher, Hardeman, Parker, Konstanty, Hansen Jr

2-4 year outlook 'Locks':
B: *****, M.Whitlock, Archer
HB: Hardeman, Comben, O'Sullivan
C: McKercher, LDU (26), *****
HF: Duursma, Larkey (27), Curtis
F: Zurhaar (27), *****, *****
Foll: Xerri (26), Wardlaw, Sheezel
Inter: Powell, *****,*****,*****

***** =
B: Logue/Pink (27), Goater.
M: Simpkin (27), Phillips, Stephens, RHJ, Urquart
F: W.Dawson, B.George, Konstanty, Banch,

Logue/Pink questions remain.
Injury risk: Goater, B.George, Archer. Comben
No proven quick small forward.
Need more KP talent.
Simpkin, Powell, Stephens - 'as a trio' lack pace, creativity, point of difference.

List management can now move away from the Fishers, Tuckers, Stephens "just give us someone who resembles an AFL player", to a more targeted and measured approach. 🤨
Much like Dees packaging up multiple picks to get access to top ten talent.

Quickest return and impact would be a gun small fwd.

For all of the Caddy and Morris hype, we have Duursma, similar build, but 'potentially' higher ceiling than both. 🤞

Don't need anything that convoluted, just stop forcing clubs to spend a minimum % of the total salary cap on player payments.

You have a cap floor, say 90% of total team cap.
If a given team in a given year spends less than the floor, then they pay the remainder to the AFLPA, who then distribute it back to all players across the league.
That way players are not getting underpaid, and perpetual bottom 4 teams are not offering inflated contracts to players just to reach the cap floor.

Duursma is not a key forward, bro. Claiming otherwise is cope

Duursma should end up utility of the grandest order. Terrifically dangerous young forward who has good skills, makes good decisions and is a really good mark with frequent flyer miles attached.

By Rd1 next year I expect him to be on wing rolling forward or back as required!

I didn't claim he was.

Look at the squad, I listed him as HFF.

The comparison though was around a goal kicking fwd, can mark, with potential. Duursma's poise/class might’ve been the reason they took him over Caddy.

With Larkey being 27, W.Dawson a great unknown, the list needs to bring in another high potential KPF.

Yeah apparently we had chatted to the Swans and it was the other of who they chose. And ten years later = nothin.

For the masses, yesterday made it 3.5 wins from our last six games. So one could now suggest we will find life a tad easier chatting to decent FA's.

The below should be the games we really target. Win 3 of that lot and we finish with 7.5 wins and we should be happy with our work.

Melbourne
Sydney
StKilda
Richmond
Adelaide ( H) ( huge scalp if we pulled it off)

Dawson playing back again this week. Hard to know where he lands. KPF to develop is what we really need now.
We have a core of players that will take us to a premiership we need more role players and depth.
The great clubs in the AFL are littered with players that fill out roles but aren’t stars.
