Do we take a punt on Elijah Hollands at Calton who is on the nose (pun intended) and has been told to explore other opportunities outside the club? Had a great 2024 with 22 matches and can play if the mind and body are clear from distraction.

If the Blues agree to chip in on some of his salary and we tossed a 4th rounder this might be worth a punt. If the culture and fit is something we don’t want (TT #2) then it won’t happen. But having a ready made player with upside could be a master stroke if Clarko & Club can settle him down ala Stengle at Geelong.
He’d come for pretty much free (late pick) so on a 1 year deal could be worth it

Worst case cut him next year
Best case he pulls his head in and gets a long term deal after being best 22 for us

While off-contract, Young is not eligible for free agency, and would have to request a trade away from Tigerland if he wanted a move, assuming the Tigers also look to retain him.
If the Tigers opt not to extend Young's services, he can walk to a keen rival as a delisted free agent later in the off-season

Better in every way than Lever
trade him with Scott....

You aren't?!

What the hell is he going to achieve?

15th? in 2026
14th in 2027?

Then the downward spiral?

Oh but they get to sell you on the "it's to improve to keep LDU" absolute horseshit.

What next, we have to improve to keep McKercher?

Not like they didn't end up having to pay LDU $1.5m a season for the privilege anyway to have him stroll around every other week when he feels up to it.

Wilkie would be as braindead ****ing stupid as Caleb Daniel, even if Wilkie is an infinitely better footballer.

Do we actually want to compete for a flag in this competition this milenium??

Then build around Sheezel, McKercher, Wardlaw etc. Not a 30 year old that will be washed up and gone in 2-3 seasons, with a 15 year top 5 pick running around for St Kilda (while they are pissing themselves laughing....)

Or haven't we already learnt this the hard way enough with Daniel, Polec, Fisher, Logue etc?

The only players coming here in the bottom 3 are mercenaries that know they are done elsewhere and want a pay day.

Im sure Wilkie would love a 5-6 year deal at 30 on $900k a season, I've no doubt Clarko would be desperate and stupid enough to do it to. Pity he will never be here to suffer the consequences of it, like the fans are..

St Kilda shipping Wilkie off, is exactly what we should be doing with Larkey, Simpkin or Zurhaar if someone is stupid enough to do it.
You and 2017 Brad Scott would get along well. Let's ship everyone off and start again from the ground up. Jeeze. That's exactly how we got here in the first place. Progress isn't linear, things take time. Not every player needs to be premiership ready or even play in our next one. We're not in a position to attract prime recruits, but this is improving. Impatience is warranted at the club, but progress is clearly happening. Need to be 14th before you can be 4th (and I won't hear it about Adelaide - they did something never done in AFL history, hardly a template/comparison).

We shipped off all the "training wheels" players last time, pressuring our kids to play under pressure they're not ready for. Now we need to buy guys like Lever to protect and teach kids like Dawson so he can eventually surpass him. Look at how Richmond are structured - they didn't win because of kids, they won because their best 6 players are veteran, premiership quality. They are handling the transition well by using the last years of their stalwarts. The ground-up rebuild is long dead - the game is far too professional and complex now.

The Darling and Parker recruitments are perfect examples of "training wheels" - undeniably every player around them has walked taller and played better with them in the team. Behind closed doors, I'm positive Daniel is also helping at lot - onfield he really has not been the disaster everyone makes out, he's just not the General we need setting structure. Need someone with confidence in their game like Lever/Wilkie so they can focus on other things like putting kids in a structure.

I expect a new midfield coach next year will also help our defence.
