List Mgmt. 2026 Draftee/NGA/FS Discussion

Article provides a brief description of the most likely draft hopefuls from the WA Colts system - including the following West Coast Father/Sons and NGA tied players listed below:

The son of two-time premiership Eagle Drew and younger brother of St Kilda draftee Charlie, Harper is hoping to become the Banfield’s latest AFL star. He’s smaller than his brother, but he’s a competitor with elite endurance. His sprinting and agility have also improved significantly in the last six months, suiting a half-forward, midfield role.
Farmer is out for revenge in 2026 after missing Claremont’s premiership. The West Coast NGA prospect kicked nine goals from seven games as a bottom-age player and he was also a train-on with the State 18s quad.
The son of 2006 West Coast premiership player Michael, Noah is a goalkicking midfielder-forward who has had some big games for Claremont last year. Is pushing to make WA’s 18s squad after missing out on the summer training block.
An attacking halfback who is part of West Coast’s Next Generation Academy, Kenh announced himself as one to watch a couple of years ago after winning WA’s MVP award at the Under-16 national championships. Originally from Liberia in West Africa, Kenh takes the game on with his speed and agility. He’s also trained with West Coast as part of national academy commitments.
Exciting, agile and crafty, McGlade is everything you want in a small forward. The Eagles NGA prospect likes to take the game on with his run and carry, making him one of the Royals’ most exciting players to watch. Kicked five in one game last year and will be hoping another good start to the year will cement his spot in the state squad.
Is linked to West Coast as an NGA prospect and the Eagles would be pleased with Lee’s development. The developing tall has grown a few centimetres of late and grown into his body. His athleticism has been on show at summer squad training, finishing third in the running vertical leap at pre-season testing.
Another Eagles NGA prospect, Ketchup isn’t just another condiment. The electric forward has an unbelievable work rate, clean skills and he always knows where the goals are. Ketchup plays his best footy at half-forward, but he can also push into the midfield when needed.
The West Coast NGA prospect missed most of last year with a stress fracture in his back but made an impact in the last four games of the season. Perera has been training with the State summer squad and his smarts and speed make him one to watch.
The West Coast NGA prospect is known for his speed, power and X-factor. The Karratha product played in the State trial game recently and will be one to watch this year.
Not mentioned in the article, but is a potential KPD from Swan Districts in our NGA who was on the radar of some posters last year

If ladder positions hold and the new rules are implemented we’ll end up with useful picks 1, 19, 24 and 42.

Following bids on Dougie and Walker, Arki Butler would currently be my pick at 3.

19 I’d take Xavier Ladbrook.

26, our F2 and FF2 I’d offer to GCS for Walter, Rogers and Davies respectively.

42 I’m looking at Mitch Stirling then round out our draft by matching our NGA/FSs.

Going to be very tight for rookie spots this year.

A ready to go small forward would be great but we already have two developing and Neocleous will likely go top 10-15.

Um, we're currently 12th

Is South Fremantle's Cooper Matera looking like a player that you guys are going to draft this year? Phil obviously played over 100 AFL games for you guys so Cooper must be F/S tied to the Eagles and I'd imagine he would also be NGA tied to Freo given he is Indigenous.

A Matera being academy tied would be the biggest farce ever
We've seen this sort of stuff happen before. Maurice Rioli Jr was NGA tied to the Bombers, because the Tiwi Islands are in Essendon's NGA zone, while also being F/S tied to Richmond and Fremantle (WAFL F/S access). I'm sure Richmond fans wouldn't have been happy with either of those clubs having equal access to him considering Maurice Sr never played for Essendon or Fremantle.

It is what it is. The NGAs are designed to increase the presence of Indigenous/Multicultural AFL footballers and Maurice Jr just so happens to be Indigneous (just like Matera). From the AFL's perspective, they probably don't really care where a player like Maurice Jr plays, just that he ends up getting drafted into the AFL.

Not Jack Pickett's strongest performance, but worth covering given he's a top 10 contender in this pool. He started the game playing deep forward, starved for opportunities with the Stingrays dominating territory in the opening term, and increasingly roamed up the field as the game progressed in an attempt to get more involved in the play. The Falcons midfield was under pressure all game, leading to the quality of ball entering their F50 being poor, but even then Pickett was caught out of position on a couple of occasions. In spite of his struggles Pickett still managed to slot a couple of majors and take two strong contested grabs which showed the qualities that we'll no doubt see more of as the season progresses.

Jackson Phillips impressed in round 1, displaying a number of traits that could well put him in the draft frame come the end of the year. Unlike some midfielders that rotate forward, Phillips looked dangerous inside the forward 50, connecting on a couple of nice hit up leads. In the midfield his stoppage craft looks solid, always on the move and able to time his run to hit the drop zone. He has the pace to burn off opponents, and his kicking skills look to be penetrating and accurate.

A strong first up performance from Clancy Snell, leading a defensive unit that stifled their opponents and dominated in the air. Snell showed excellent judgement of the ball in flight along with a willingness to launch fearlessly, taking a couple of strong contested grabs and disrupting his opponents when he couldn't get hands on it himself. He was constructive with the ball, highlighted by a number of long and accurate kicked up to the wings.

Can anyone identify the hybrid midfielder in the upcoming draft? We should be focusing on an 'A player' who's good in transition, with a big engine, high speed, constantly moving, sprinting to support the attack, and then again to deliver the ball forward.

I was hoping Hewett was this guy but I am having my doubts lately.

Adding Chad Warner in 2027...+ a kid with this profile alongside Harley is salivating. And who knows what the ceiling is for Duursma and CDT.

He missed today’s game for some reason, haven’t found out why yet but Kodah Edwards looks to have a lot of what we need.

Gold Coast and Brisbane aren’t doing those trades. Like the idea of trading for Walter but it’s more likely to be our 2027 R1 with something coming back. Doubt Marshall is gettable for us

As much as it would be a nice bonus for us, I doubt we get an extra end of R1 pick as the AFL won’t go ahead with it. Stupid idea and there’ll be too much blowback from clubs who won’t benefit

You’ve forgotten Harper Banfield as a F/S - bad enough we overlooked Charlie let alone his brother who projects as being a better player

Still lol at the fact that Bitchmond had two bites at the cherry and still overlooked Shanahan.

Faull looks ok but damn Armstrong looks a bit disappointing so far.

Faull(14), Trainor(21), Armstrong(23) and Sims(28) all before Shanahan

Worked out beautifully for us
