Bit unfortunate but having had the dreaded gastro myself (mid game) better safe than sorry. I lost 11 kilos which wasn't idle as I was in a baulking phase but I knew I'd be cherry ripe when the whips were crackling.

IIRC, also paid Aaron Davey's airfare to come down to Melbourne to play at the Borough when we were affiliated, but then couldn't put him on the rookie list because Boomer threatened to walk if we didn't take Shane

At least that's my recollection, happy to be corrected

Can add Patch, Azza Edwards and Scotty McMahon to that list as well.

He was replaced by Bryce Lewis after the 2007 draft. I'm not sure what the rational was.
Nifty then went to the Giants and helped SOS build their inaugural list.

He'd be in his 70s by now I reckon. Even though he would likely do a better job, doubt he'd want a full-time role.
But would happily have him back in a scouting/consulting role though.

Good Point, perhaps we can expect to see Banch come on much quicker having a more mature body, played in successful VFL team, and been in North's system for a while now. Be interesting to see how Kako come on this season. I suspect Watson may have the highest ceiling though, but get the feeling Dov might not be far behind. Seems like a competitive kid who'd probably be driven by the competition for spots and to be better than Watson.

Dov seems closer to the Boomer Harvey work ethic and mongrel than anyone we've drafted in the last 20 years.

I believe that was the case, was either going to be Davey or Shane Harvey in the pre-season draft. And we were too broke to take on any rookies that year, so couldn't take him there either and the Dees swooped.
He had a good eye for a diamond in the rough, did Nifty.

It will be interesting to see how Dov reacts to looking for the most part pretty average vs AFL players so far in the preseason from reports. He is used to being a star and has shown glimpses of quality without dominating.

I am hoping this early experience of the size of the step up from juniors to the AFL will just bring out the mongrel in him and accelerate his development as he works even harder on technique and physique.

It will be no bad thing in the longer run if Banch/Konstanty raise their levels enough to keep him out of the side for a bit and drag absolutely everything out of him to force his way in so he is flying when he does. It is nice to have potentially strong depth at a previous problem area through a mix of player development and drafting.

To be fair mate, I often (incorrectly) refer to an extensive part of the Murray Darling Basin as the Riverina! So I was wrong on that one

Shit, living in Sydney, I was hanging out for the match report from a non-keyboard warrior. I’m spewing that the poos had infiltrated the only thing I had to look forward to in BigFooty pre-season reports, only for it to come back as another whinge fest without any actual facts. Hopefully next week the diarrhoea coming out of the BigFooty aficionado is something other than a whinge, but something based on factual reality. Love BigFooty for the rational posts, not the people who say they bleed blue and white but are actually just hoaxes, wanting to bag anything because their life is boring….
