Might feel like a bit of a Flynn redux, but I would be targeting GWS's rucks hard this off-season.

Both Madden and Briggs are out of contract.

Would love to poach Madden, think he would be both an immediate upgrade and an addition to the young core with high upside. But I can also imagine a scenario where he has passed Briggs by the end of this season and secured his spot in the Giants best-22… in which case, I guess I’d just try to poach Briggs and have a ready-made AFL quality ruck for a few years while CDT and Archer cook.

Flynn as a depth ruck sounds a lot better than as our primary option. Would like to see Bailey get a crack with the new rules this year, but don't have great confidence there either.

The Neds would be ideal targets, but both are contracted long term I believe. Would need to pry them loose.

Is ZZ a WA kid? The only reason I ask is that obviously holds a bit more weight in enticing them over, not that we shouldn't be trying to recruit talent no matter where they're originally from.

It begs the thought, that in 2028+ when we are looking to add in FA & trades, what would be the easiest players to add in?
I think a bargain ruck is always available, but fringe KPD like McKay will cost more than they are worth.

I’d be waiting to see how the new ruck rules play out for a bit longer before making any decisions on who, if anyone, to target

There’s encouraging signs we might already have our future ruck paring with Arch and CDT and we might only need someone to bridge the role for another year or two as they mature

Unfortunately, Flynn looks like one of those rucks who are going to be increasingly found out by the new rules so persisting with him is an ongoing risk.

By contrast, Bailey Williams at least has the athletic traits to succeed under the new rules but it remains to be seen if he has the ability/ruck craft to match. Prior evidence suggests he doesn’t but I’m sure he’ll get an opportunity in due course

I wouldn’t be targeting the likes of Briggs or Sweet as they’re not enough of an upgrade on Flynn to bother. Bear in mind also that we’ve been chasing a ruck for the last couple of years with known approaches to English, Cameron, Sweet, Reeves, Knobel and Meek without success. Almost certainly there’s been others we don’t know about

We also won’t be the only club looking for a ruck so the reality is we might have to continue with at least one of Flynn or Williams, maybe both.

Or Barnett can do a Lazarus and surprise everyone by coming good. Like Williams, he has the athletic traits but lacks the competitive instinct to take advantage of those traits

Trading for a KPD is probably a higher priority than a ruck, especially with question marks on the future of Harry Edwards

A lot of this board wanted him in the Flyin Ryan trade.
This kid is a gun and that game against GWS in R24 last year & R9 game against CAR put a stamp on this kid can be a inside/outside balanced threat and an A grade player very soon.
I would throw what we need at him, but these silly talks of $1M contracts are still just silly.

Who used to be a good ruck thats small? Gawn, English, Xerri, Jackson are top 4. Grundy probably 5th. That hasnt changed this year

Alex Dodson might get frustrated being stuck behind both Marshall and TDK at St Kilda, he’s definitely a ruck of the future.
