I've read a few times how we went with HDM over Morris, I kinda get it as while LM was a list need he wasn't rated as high at the time, that happens. Freijah went at 45 in the same draft, we wouldnt be complaining about that over LM. I'm still losing sleep on how we went Stevenson over Naughton, both similar rated but the latter a clear need (yes I know his disposal wasn't rated pre draft).

I’m haunted by how we got effectively nothing out of;

Freeman
Stephenson
Henry
Macrae
Poulter
Liam whatshisface who went to Carlton
Ryan
De Mattia…

In between trading all our early picks, some for terrific players like Shoota and Houston, others for sinkholes like Dayne Beams… we’ve managed to burn endless picks in the teens and twenties. We’ve barely developed any talent of our own!

Might not be popular with everyone, but I think we need to become bigger risk takers particularly when you can get talent cheaply.

Seems like players need to be choir boys in our club. Hence Ginnie out the door.

Really should have had a look at Elijah Hollands and JUH given our lack of young talent.

You mean get the boys back together.

Hollands and JUH are both a constant high risk. I understand the attraction. Another perspective is that it is possible there are enough club known knowns to manage without more. No proof, no inside information.

Rather target Logan McDonald than Jed Walter who’s done nothing to suggest he will be any good.

Considering McDonald has been in system 5 years he’s been a huge disappointment and not lived up to the hype. I’d take Jed Walter who’s 3 years younger.

Derek hine recruiting has set us back isn’t the objective to draft what you need in later picks and not some players who might haven’t been drafted

He was the recruiting manager and not just the draft manager. He oversaw a great run in the top half of the ladder. We've stayed up in the top half because we realised that you got better value in trade than in the draft. That'll change and when it does hopefully we spend more of our recruiting chips at the draft.

Thats one pick. If they pick a player and then cochrane gets bid on AFTER their pick, they'll need another pick.
They would also need points for next year too.
Its expected they'll match and force a trade
Whomever gets butters I imagine they'll have to trade out a good player to satisfy port.

Maybe that's where we can benefit, I can't see us getting Butters, maybe we can get one of their quality midfielders, let's bring Ed Richards home.

Definitely can see the benefit of going for Bailey, he’s explosive in the middle and can buy his own clearances. Though I always assumed based on SA ties that would be where he’d be going.

B Humphrey I really like as a target too but that’s to replace Jordy in that forward mid role. Very explosive too.

Overall I still see that if you bring one of these and pair them with Nick we’re still short on the inside battle so an inside machine or a smart defensive mid is needed to counter balance it. Looking at the next 2-3 years we unfortunately have to solve for both offensive and defensive gaps in our midfield and we should try to get a mix and balance that is as complementary as possible.

we were previously keen on Davies. Omitted again from the suns. Would be an upgrade on Long at least but granted I haven’t watched enough of him to make any judgements.

Out of contract, wouldn’t cost a lot.

Only 38 disposals, 2 goals and 14 clearances

Last week it was 41 touches and 16 clearances

Week before that it was a below his best 37 and 9 clearances

Is only 26. Could do worse than rookie him or another contested mid in the MSD… should the pies end up with a couple of picks

Probably fair. Longs killing me atm I can’t lie.

I think he's ok in a competitive midfield. But without Nick and Pendles we just couldn't compete - not even close. Those two out and our lack of depth turned 4 strong positions into 4 positions we were smashed - 2 in the midfield and then two solid flankers come off flanks to cover them but can't compete and are replaced on the flanks by two youngsters who couldn't compete. It was a shit show. But we'll see it a lot this year if we get key injuries.

I’d be having a look at Marshall from Brisbane, I was very impressed with him last year in his first year and now not getting a game, obviously depending if he would want to leave and what he would cost.
