We have 2 Picks so we can still draft a Gus/Roan type
Yes-maths was never my strong point. I was so focused on the one pick we already had I forget to factor in Steen's replacement. I still hold to what I wrote regarding Cox. He will be better than anyone we can pick up in the draft.

Can we not bring up Mason Cox please for the love of god. We're trying to freshen up the list and having a 34 year old ruck wouldn't help. No one could have predicted a Steene ACL.

Plus his output last season didn't warrant an extension.

Dunno about this. He was better than Steene at the start of the year, which is untrue now. There's a chance that Smit is better than Cox as we speak and that others in the MSD will be better.

But you can predict long term injuries and have a contingency plan in case. We had one in our lap and threw it away.

Well we are team that is ReSetting so we did not need a Ruckman who has 2 Seasons at Most Left

Cox would not be hindering the development of West or Buller because he'd only play in case of injury to Cameron or Steene. As far as Smit is concerned, I don't think he has a future at the club. That's my view based on what I've seen this year. Fly has certainly not given this year away, so Cox as back up this week against the Eagles as opposed to more from Buller/Long or McStay would be definite upgrade.

Perhaps we have different priorities. I don't see any value in giving games to a 35 year old backup, who has no upside. If Cox had been on the list, I don't know if Steene plays as many games as he has this season, so his delisting has already resulted in a net positive. Given that we hadn't seen Steene until his fourth? year at the club, I'm not as willing to write of a 20yr old ruckman who has been with us for 18 months. If this injury to Steene exposes Smit to senior football, we can see where he is at first hand and if he's worth persisting with or delisting. Another win win, from my point of view.

Whilst Fly is perfectly entitled to hold that position, I'm a little more pessimistic given the profile of the list and some of our deficiencies. We are not a contending side and we would only be marginally better in the short term with Cox rucking. Steering into youth is far more beneficial.

The full strength top team fell in against a Collingwood team with 8 players with less than 20 games experience.

Perhaps Fly has good reason to be optimistic about our season.

Why? He wasn't going to keep Steene out of the side. So there was no holding up the development of young talent. He is still playing good footy in one of the best three teams in the comp at the moment. I'd love to hear the club's reasoning. It wasn't as if he limped over the line. He played both finals and did well.
Howes was moved to defence. Too many tall forwards. Our rucks are Cameron, Steene and Smit. McCarty as a project player. Keeping Cox on the list would have hurt ruck and forward development in the VFL. It was the right decision.

Should be two picks now with Teakle being the second of them, but we might go with Teakle first because of the perceived need for the current season.

Guarantee you Sam McClure brings it up on next week's Tradies episode.

Against Ladhams yesterday, Teakle had the 15 hitouts compared to Ladhams 30, who has a decent leap on him at centre bounce...
Just to confirm you are suggesting that Teakle potentially isn’t the best outcome? Preaching to the converted if that’s the case, but he trained with the senior group through the week and Fly spoke on him in his mid week presser. He’s also spent time up forward and down back so they’ll like the flexibility. It’s a probable not a possible.

It’s also worth bearing in mind that Ladhams is just about the best “next in” ruckman in the league so those numbers while sharing duties with Smit are decentish.

I like McLean. I thought he was worthwhile when teams were playing 1 ruck. He is a ruck forward who is competent at both but not good at either. He's not for us - lesser forward than ours and lesser ruck than ours, but handy if you want a combination guy.
Maybe we need to reconsider after Friday night.

Who else would pick Teakle?

I completely forgot that Oscar going down means we have TWO picks now. Silly me.

Could be Teakle and Podhajski? (not locked in but he’s the only other name I know of)

I would be shocked if we had looked at Podhajski at all tbh.

I would love to go with Marcus Herbert/Jack Riding and AJ Kuol Mun/Mirkov myself. Think they're all either a cut above VFL level or have some tools to seriously grow

Is Teakle the best next level ruck option in all of Australia? Just because he plays VFL for us does that make him the best?

He's not the best, but knowing the system he might be the best option for us for a 3 months patch.

Agree. But with the clubs before us Herbert will likely be gone. I think the Eagles are keen.
