Neale is 33 and would definitely not cost nothing. I don't think he would sign for anything under $900k
He meant nothing in trade terms, but you already knew that and decided to argue for the sake of it.

Just establishing now since he'll likely be a big part of discussion in this thread for the remainder of the year - it's Humprey, not Humphries. As in, Humphrey B. Bear

Humphries is Lawson, who plays for Geelong
I love your optimism!

Brody Mihocek played eight years of footy for the club and people still call him Miocheck, Miohcek and every other variation you can think of.

I think we can net two first rounders, we need HDM and JRyan to get 60 disposals each on debut.

Edit: Or we tank and hopefully get pick 1 and split it and use one of them on Walter and the other in the draft?

Essendon would have to win 5 games 😂 don't like our chances

While a gun mid would be very nice to help Nick out, we have Josh, Beau and Ed Allen and Angry who should be rolling through the middle.
Players like Josh and Beau are too good to be flankers, what’s more bewildering is that these are 2 guys that have had real success and made a real difference in the middle.
Yet we have people saying we lack midfield depth, I don’t think that we are utilising the right people in the right positions.

Even worse, I missed an H in my correction anyway, calling him Humprey. So I'm no better. I am having a proper mare today

Age shouldn’t be a barrier given the trade capital to acquire him is zero.
He’s an exception to the rule, an absolute Gun and he will play effective footy for the next 2 years at least.
And you never know what the future brings.
We win those close ones this year and we are knocking on top 4.

Not sure about Lachie
Great player .. exactly what we need in the middle
But
Age
Cost ?

Interesting time ahead if he wants to come
It will be. Injuries as well for the older players always a concern.
Clearance machine however. Adds a layer to our side like Titch did but like Titch on steroids level.

What draft capital do the dogs, hawks or cats have? They will likely have even less than us. Not saying I’m interested in butters at all as I wouldn’t give up whats needed. But the clubs on the race have SFA as well.

Even hawks being linked to Humphries. Good luck with late teens picks. They will need to give up a good player as well
We all saw how the Merrett deal landed and they don’t have greater capacity to get a deal done this year without including a player GC would be interested in. The Dees at least make sense.

He didn't have 8 years at Freo either. Surely he's high enough paid to be restricted?
It’s 10 years in the league as far as I understand it once you hit that mark you’re an UFA each time you come off contract.

Any club offering a first rounder for Jed Walter at this point is being duped.
Geelong payed a late teens pick for Smith ffs, even coming off an ACL and with behavioural problems he was worth a ton more than Walter currently is.

The player market seams hot in terms of interest and prices speculated. I would be shocked if an early draft tall like Walter didn’t require a first. The risk and date of return are issues.

You think the market wasn’t hot for elite midfielders when Smith was traded???

Free agency is reached at 8 years.
Correct, but in this instance the reference was to UFA status. The RFA status at 8 and 9 years (if inside the top 10 highest paid at your club) and then UFA for 10 years + along with formerly delisted players (Ned Long). That’s how I understand it at least.

I think JUH, Smith and Oliver were special cases. Huge potential and huge risk. All three were very clear about where they wished to
Land.
I’d say Walter is just as big a risk as those three, but just a different type. The only accomplishment of Walter’s career to date to justify a lofty price was his draft number which is largely irrelevant 10 minutes after a player walks into a club for the first time.

Smith threatened to go to PSD if i remember correctly. His manager had already told everyone else that he wants to go to Geelong. I don’t know if we could do that will Walters unless he's hell bent to get to us. Who really knows

My God, his stats for both VFL and AFL are horrible. I'd be questioning his commitment

Forwards are seemingly being way overvalued this year. We know what Amartey offers, and Walter is largely unproven - both of them either hitting six figures or very close to it. I'd genuinely rather stick with McStay.

Walter seems to not be involved. A tall not advancing as wanted. His draft pick is related to future potential. Future potential doesn’t win games.
Humphrey seems hot and cold.
To the best of my knowledge they are not a concern off field.

I reckon a good mid sized forward is a much safer bet. Morris, Georgiadis, Gunston, Waterman, Voss and Pods
