Apart from the fact that Draper is miles ahead in his development.
We hold him to a higher standard than we do Bryan, that’s the difference.
What makes you think Draper is that far ahead in his development?
He may be 2 years older, more aggressive but the natural talent that Nick possess' should imho, push him to compete with Draper for that number 1 ruckman.
Because while they are both very young and obviously inconsistent to this point Draper’s good is a whole world above Bryan’s. His good is destroying AFL standard ruckman.
Draper also has that innate ‘extra midfielder’ type physicality that we cannot afford to go without given how the rest of midfield looks.
Bryan has not demonstrated any physical presence to this point, makes him almost unplayable IMO, beyond just doing so to pump games into him and push along his development.
Nah. We're mid table. Ahead of at least the three they rank ahead of us plus a couple of others. We suck

If Phillips plays this weekend, he’d have every right to explore his options end of year. In fact would be foolish not to.

If he plays VFL he gets to play full time ruck minutes, not the worst thing for him at this stage instead of sharing with Draper.
He’s played a few AFL games, knows the level required, now see if he can go back to VFL and dominate a few games.
So he can go to another club and play VFL ?If Phillips plays this weekend, he’d have every right to explore his options end of year. In fact would be foolish not to.
taking away the necessity to fit in at Essendon (learn better ruck craft), what does Bryan need to do to get better and force himself into the #1 conversation? So he can go to another club and play VFL ?
Just keep developing his around the ground craft and be a more consistent marking target. His ruck work is fine and his positioning around the ground is better than Draper. He is just not as ready physicality wise . He has not had the advantage of a full season of VFL yet. This is really the first year he will play 16 plus games.taking away the necessity to fit in at Essendon (learn better ruck craft), what does Bryan need to do to get better and force himself into the #1 conversation?

1 more clearance and less hit outs from how many CBAs? 1 more goal for how much more time spent forward? Half a story atm.Kinda absurd. Compared to Draper. 1 more clearance, 1 more goal, 2 more touches, 3 more tackles, 5% less game time. Less hit outs but who cares we lost them by 20 and still had more clearances.
There’s plenty to be drawn from it. Spent half the time in the middle but had the better metrics at the contest and away from the ball.1 more clearance and less hit outs from how many CBAs? 1 more goal for how much more time spent forward? Half a story atm.
Come again?Still think a game like today, particularly if the opposition have a strong, seasoned mauler like McEvoy is better for his development than limited game time and majority forward in a crap side that can’t get him the footy.
Come again?
He's never rucked that much. Only ever as a chop out.Brother of, Peter, been one of the best bigs in the VFL for the last 10 or so years, although having said that it doesn’t look like he did much rucking today.
As I recall we actually told him we would draft him and reneged as well and he’s hated us ever since.
I know Pete. Great bloke.Brother of, Peter, been one of the best bigs in the VFL for the last 10 or so years, although having said that it doesn’t look like he did much rucking today.

You're thinking of Goodwin, who went to Port Melbourne for a year before retiring.Brother of, Peter, been one of the best bigs in the VFL for the last 10 or so years, although having said that it doesn’t look like he did much rucking today.

Because physically he is not ready maybe. He gets 90% game time in the VFL compared to 60 to 70% in the AFL.Reckon he would have been the best ruckman out there had he played today…
I just don’t see any point in playing him in the VFL anymore. Not that his competition’s that good at the moment, but he’s absolutely our most in form ruck option.
