The former Carlton player and St Kilda backline coach had been desperate to secure Thomas and believed it would send a message about second chances.

Yet Welsh was on Monday morning believed to be strongly considering quitting given the Thomas decision.

It would be a blow for the northern suburbs club given the Bullants won only two games last year in a 21-team competition.

I-It's about second chances
Fuuuuuuuck we're going to suck again I quit

Thomas will continue to search for a new home and his right to be in the AFL’s mid-season draft.

Even if Thomas had been given approval to play at the Northern Bullants he would have had to reapply to the AFL for permission, even though the league has told him he can play at a non-AFL aligned VFL club.
You have to think he has been told to get out of town then?
What are his options? QLD & NSW reserve sides or play in the QAFL / NSWAFL for half a carton?

This will test how serious he is to turn his life around. Will have to move interstate now as his only options.

I’m tipping he won’t do that.

WAFL.

Some of the clubs there actually have a history of giving kids a 2nd chance. Marlion Pickett a good example of that.
Not sure some of the WAFL sides would be that interested or have the $

Think its just Swan Districts at this stage.

And funny enough, later on today:

“Disgraced North Melbourne midfielder Tarryn Thomas has been offered a two-week trial by Swan Districts despite his troubled and controversial past.

The West Australian can reveal Thomas will fly in Perth on Tuesday and will train with the club that night as he looks to revive his career.

He will spend at least a fortnight at the club where his fitness will be test as part of Swans doing their due diligence.”

Here's a taste of the initial reaction from the local community.

Tarryn Thomas was all smiles as the disgraced former AFL player tries to get his final lifeline at Swan Districts.

Hours after touching down in Perth, Thomas trained at Steel Blue Oval alongside potential teammates as he starts his fortnight trial.

Thomas - who played 69 games for North Melbourne before being axed for a series of off field controversies involving women - looked fit as he slotted straight into full training.

The midfielder is set for a role up forward at Swans if he gets an opportunity with the club needing to find a replacement for Tom Edwards who was drafted last week by Essendon.

Thomas, 24, sported the No.58 guernsey as he was welcomed by potential teammates under the eye of coach Andrew Pruyn.

His recruitment will have to be ticked off by WA Football who are yet to clear Thomas to play in the WAFL.

Swan Districts chief executive Jeff Dennis said they didn’t expect to have an issue.

“It is a step-by-step process. Right now, we need to know whether we’re interested, first of all,” he said.

“We have already received the support of the AFL - they contacted us, we didn’t contact the AFL - and indicated they support our efforts.

“We will, in due course, absolutely reach out to the football commission.”

Am I the only one confused by the radio silence on a bit of strife two white blokes from down the highway are seemingly in?

Is there some legal difference preventing reporting of the alleged incident?

Thomas, sporting No.58, did gravitate to the back of group huddles as he attempted to assimilate back into football training after nearly a year in exile.
The longer training wore on, the more it became obvious that Thomas still has some way to go to prove his fitness.
Swan Districts will first need to be satisfied that the former Roo has reformed his behaviour and whether the club has the resources to support him.
But from a football sense, Thomas appeared fatigued towards the end of drills and he sat out parts of the session. He did show glimpses of his skill, side-stepping a player and nailing a shot on goal during one match simulation drill.

Not too surprised about fitness issues. Body on body conditioning would naturally be an issue, but they'd be concerned if his running power wasn't up to snuff.

The Marty Sheargold incident yesterday proves how difficult it will be for someone like Tarryn to make it back to the big league. The backlash from any club that picks him up will be considerable I suspect.
