Past #26: Tarryn Thomas [Part III] - [C.Twomey] AFL rules TT is eligible to play in all competitions as of 14 October

But let the club make that call. The AFL didn’t need to step in here. Clubs should deal with dickhead behaviour and the AFL should only involve itself if it threatens the integrity of the competition.

All this does is undermine the footy club and make them look like a bunch of incompetent idiots that can’t be trusted to deal with player indiscretions.
Well up to a point. NMFC have tried to deal with it, however that hasn’t worked. Time for the AFL to step in (and I bet NMFC is glad they have done so) and taken over with the matter. Time he goes, and then NMFC can be free of this mess.

I don’t believe this is a matter of standing up for TT on this forum, I think every person acknowledges and thinks he is a complete **** wit. I think people are more so challenging prosecution system. And I think that’s more than fair in a world where all matters are handled differently by the afl. From what the media is telling us, a dumb ass kid is losing his livelihood for something that doesn’t warrant criminal charges.

And to add to your previous point about scrapping players who are bad news. I don’t think you realised how bare the game would be if they did that…

There's any number of reasons why a victim of DV or threatening behavior wouldn't go to the police, basically all of which are well documented ad nauseum. I guess the ex is lucky that there is a professional organization which actually has a contract with Tarryn that she can report his conduct to.

Or, you can put 2+2 together and get an ex girlfriend who has been the victim of multiple alleged threatening incidents, who very well may have received ongoing threats of violence from Tarryn, who didn't want to report his conduct to the police for any number of reasons, and reported it to the AFL.

Except this had happened in the past? And the club did deal with it? And gave him counselling, made him take a night job, suspended him, brought him back from the brink... And then he did it all again?
Are you kidding yourself? What exactly can the AFL do to help this women that the police can’t do? All the AFL can do is impose a suspension which has no guarantees of stopping the behaviour.

So let the club make the call to suspend him, sack him.

These are the same clowns that ran the Hawthorn investigation last year and turned it into a farce and impacted individuals and our club through no fault of its own.

If you trust these clowns to run an investigation into a personal matter like this, you are naive.

Amen to that.

The only reason to go to the AFL is punishment. Which is fine if that’s what she wants.

But it doesn’t make her safer. Infact unless she goes to the police as well, one would think it would make things more dangerous for her.

You are kidding yourself If you think the club would be happy to not be informed of bad behaviour of one of their players and not given the opportunity to deal with it.

Just listen to the narrative in the media, it’s not painting the club in a positive light at all.

It has nothing to do with what the AFL can vs what the police can do. It has everything to do with a history of police not taking DV victims seriously. It's about the AFL actually helping vs the police potentially telling her she is officer shopping or whatever

All the AFL can do is impose a suspension which has no guarantees of stopping the behaviour.

Sure because recidivism is not a thing and every police investigation that has led to a successful conviction has never led to reoffending.

So let the club make the call to suspend him, sack him.

Again, the club already did this. They gave him counselling. They stood him down. They sent him to the VFL. They made him clean toilets at night. All evidence we have suggests it didn't work.

thread needs a vote with the options

1. he is scum throw him in the bin no matter what.
2. She set him up it’s not even a threat (racism/wouldn’t happen at big club)
3. It’s murky. TT is a flog but does he deserve to lose his livelihood. It’s debatable.

I personally vote option 3.

4. He’ll never play for North again so none of the above matters

How could the afl possibly help her?

Kick Thomas out of the afl and then what?

Val and I are in complete agreement.

It's a rare but beautiful sight.

So exactly how are the AFL helping the victim here? So you want me to believe that a Sporting Organisation is more qualified and capable of dealing with domestic violence than the people entrusted to enforce our laws?

Can you not see how ridiculous that statement is?

I want you to believe there's a litany of reasons why a victim of domestic violence would choose to escalate complaints to a body other than the police. It has nothing to do with who is more qualified and more about why she would choose one over the other.

Because ACAB, & particularly when it comes to DV.

He'd abuse them again and if she ****s him over he'll do it to her too. What a contrite and classy fella, truly learned his lessons about respect, relationships, AND SENDING ****ING TEXT MESSAGES. Actually laughed.

I'm assuming the paper isn't running with messages that could have been faked, so let the AFL make an example of him if they think it's watertight.

Unless there is some utterly astounding context in the messages before those ones, then I don't want to see him in our colors again.

Maybe the victim thought the AFL was more likely to actually respond with meaningful action than writing a report that leads to another 1k fine?
If the goal was to have him sacked over dealing with the so called threatening behaviour. Then yes the AFL are the perfect vehicle to make that happen.

There was nothing stopping the individual taking this to both the police and the AFL, the fact that one was favoured over the other is very suspect.

Yeah it seems to be being glossed over, that he’s not only admitted but comes across as lording that he has abused women before. The self awareness is worrying.
