Past #26: Tarryn Thomas [Part III] - [C.Twomey] AFL rules TT is eligible to play in all competitions as of 14 October

He will be on a list next year, there is nothing surer.
I wouldn’t be so sure.

I’m sure the AFL will be privately advising all clubs to steer clear and that he’s a bee’s dick away from deregulation.

They AFL will not want another incident from TT no matter how minor to occur.

Whatever the f***ing outcome here I just want it done.

We’ve so much to actually look forward to and this saga sucks so much attention and energy.

This drip feeding speculation can f*** right off.

The measure of our success is not tied to him making it.

I have checked out so far with this I no longer care what the outcome is. We’ll get kicked regardless, so f*** all the media, and if we have to cut him f*** him too.

Years of being dragged through shit as a club we just don’t need this circus.

Are these messages all there is? If so what is the charge here?

Talking or thinking about abusing women to a third party?

As bad as the texts are, they don’t amount to a 12-18 week ban IMO.

AFL is treading into Wrongthink territory.

What i find strange is that roughly 90% of people believe he cant play at our club but at another club, yep thats fine. For something done in his private life.
I dont understand why its acceptable for him to play elsewhere but not at North. Its like North is the only one being punished.

I understand the feelings but Tarryn has shat in the faces of his peers , coaches and those defending him - including us , time and time again now. You can argue seriousness etc but the disrespect to everyone around him with dick behaviour must be very very frustrating.

If they say , we’ve had enough, I get it

Man, the TT apologists are gross.

Guys, I know it sucks that a talented player won't be wearing your colours anymore, but it's a little sad to idolise a 23 year old to the point of refusing to believe he's the problem despite all available evidence when you're a grown ass adult.

Nah I don’t think it’s apologists, just more trying to understand how the punishment has been found after being tried in court historically.

And add in the “small club, everyone hates us” chip on the shoulder when comparing TT with the likes of Martin and Degoey as well as then not actually having any criminal action taken, with little facts available and leaks coming from media and afl house I can understand that there is some who are siding on the point of “apology”

At the end of the day he’s a dogshit human. Our greatest ever CHF was also and could play a bit too. It came to bite him on the arse as he didn’t sort his shit out.

We just need more information to come to light, which a criminal investigation offers more than a kangaroo court at afl house

96% to 99% of regular north board posters agree. The remainder cannot be convinced.

It is time to move on. We've got the opportunity to watch a hit out today. Let's just enjoy the sport. Players come and go.

IF... these messages are all there is to this latest saga and he hasn't actually abused anyone, then my takeaway from it is that it's apparent that all the education and patience and support from our club was totally wasted on him as he is just a petulant child and I'm happy to move him on. At the same time, I find it difficult to look at these texts in isolation and consider them career-ending.

I see your Wrongthink reference and raise you a Precrime sentence. Because the worst of what he's done here is give the implication of what he might do next.

Summed up the sentiment perfectly.

No one is defending him for being a shit bloke and last time I looked the AFL is rife with shit blokes.

Stop with the innuendo and media leaks and tell us what the grub has done. If it’s violence towards women then no one will bat an eye lid at him being suspended and the club ****ing him off.

But all we have been fed is that he’s sent some distasteful text messages and acted like a petulant tool.

If someone like Martin actually threatening violence to someone in person is signed off by the AFL, then how do we get to 12-18 weeks for this?

I’ve said it a number of times, the AFL should step aside and let the club deal with the issue and and punishment required, which should be to tear his contract up if they feel the behaviour warrants it?

All we have is the AFL playing their games through the media to make it look like they are Social Justice Hero’s and actually give a **** about anything more than their bank balance.

It’s amazing how this only happens when it doesn’t involve one of their big cash cows.

‘Would do again’: Tarryn Thomas’ shocking text messages exposed

Damning text messages sent by Tarryn Thomas have emerged on social media in which the North Melbourne player said he had abused women and “would do again”.

Damning texts sent by Tarryn Thomas have emerged on social media as the AFL is set to hand down sanctions to the North Melbourne player over fresh allegations of domestic violence.
A screenshot of a message, circulating on Instagram and obtained by the Herald Sun, showed Thomas speaking about abusing women.
“And for them girls I abuse I would do again,” he wrote to a woman.
“After what they did to me if you do me wrong I will let you have it.”
It comes as a source close to another woman, who was previously linked to Thomas, detailed his allegedly abusive nature.
“He harassed, stalked, abused and made threats against her,” they said.
“He made her feel worthless and small with his nasty words.”
The source said the woman was “fearful” of Thomas and isolated her from family and friends.
Thomas’ career at the Kangaroos could be over within days with the AFL expected to suspend him of up to 18 weeks.
On Monday, the AFL said its investigation into the new allegations of domestic violence was not yet resolved.
But it’s understood a suspension of that length had been raised in discussions with the AFL and North Melbourne.
Last year, Thomas escaped conviction after threatening to share an explicit video of his ex-partner Jamai Curran.
Instead, he was ordered to pay $1000 to charity.
At the time, Ms Curran told the Herald Sun that she believed Thomas never faced harsh consequences for his behaviour.
“I think he believes the way he treats women is justified because of his status and power,” she said.
“I think he believes he’s entitled to treat women however he wants.
“North Melbourne and the justice system not punishing him just reinforces it is OK because he never faces consequences.”
Ms Curran said the AFL were “letting women down” by prioritising players and their reputations.
“I think the AFL are letting women down and at this point, need to be held responsible,” she said.
“The AFL and clubs talk so much about domestic violence and taking it seriously but when push comes to shove they don’t do anything about it because it’s more important to protect players and reputations.
“It will be interesting to see how this plays out and if AFL finally matches its actions with its words.”
An 18-week suspension could give the Kangaroos cause to cut ties with Thomas.
He is in the last season of a lucrative contract, currently being paid between $600,000 to $700,000.

Sounds like an emotionally unstable, immature individual

My question is...after last year's episode, has he returned from purgatory and gone and put himself in the same situation again? If the answer is yes...is he arrogant or just plain stupid?

If the answer is yes, all the excuses in the world aren't going to help him. Give him another out and he'll probably just keep doing it.

There's too much good going on at the club to keep pandering to one individual.

I'd be interested to hear Todd Viney's views on this over a cold one. I wonder how much and energy he's having to put in. Tine and energy he could be using in other areas.

474.17 Using a carriage service to menace, harass or cause offence

(1) A person commits an offence if:

(a) the person uses a carriage service; and

(b) the person does so in a way (whether by the method of use or the content of a communication, or both) that reasonable persons would regard as being, in all the circumstances, menacing, harassing or offensive.

Penalty: Imprisonment for 5 years.

The AFL's football boss Laura Kane has refused to confirm whether North Melbourne will receive salary cap relief when Tarryn Thomas' lengthy suspension is confirmed.

9News reporter Tom Morris broke the news on Wide World of Sports that Thomas is set to be hit with an 18-week ban over allegations he acted inappropriately towards a woman.

While no police charges have been laid and the AFL is yet to sanction the penalty, the future of the troubled 23-year-old at Ardern Street is well and truly up in the air.
Once the 18-week suspension is ratified it will leave Thomas with only four potential games this year to earn himself a new contract.

"We take all of those claims that come through our portal extremely seriously," Kane told 3AW's Wide World of Sports radio on Tuesday.

"Ultimately this one is a matter for our general counsel and our integrity team and they're continuing to work through this matter.

"We're moving as quickly as we can given people are involved in this.

"What I will say is we don't stand for that behaviour in this industry."

Kane, though, would not be drawn on possible salary cap dispensation for the Kangaroos once the ban is confirmed.

Thomas is said to be earning between $600,000 and $700,000 this year, with still eight months' of that salary owed.

The AFL's collective bargaining agreement makes it hard for a club to sack a player, and the fact Thomas hasn't been charged by police makes it likely he will remain on North Melbourne's books until his contract expires.

But that would leave the Kangaroos forking out hundreds of thousands of dollars for an employee who can't fulfil his role.

"We work through the TPP (total player payments) and any associated conditions that apply for players who come and go from our game with the club directly," Kane said when asked about salary cap relief.

"We're very cognisant of the interest that people have, but it's not something we will go through publicly.

"We make sure each player, each club, each situation is managed appropriately case by case."

Makes it pretty clear there what is currently still being decided.

If North are legally allowed to sack him for breach of contract now or we have to put up with him until the end of the year and keep paying him.

Which makes it even more ludicrous that the club has the decision making taken out of their hands.

If we have to carry the burden of the decision, then let us make it.

I look forward to the AFL imposing sanctions on all bad player behaviour going forward.

Why are you assuming it's the AFL and not North that wants to sack him?

North could be seeking direction from the AFL as to their ability to sack him as an AFL contracted player.

Thomas' playing contract is with the AFL, not North.

Because the suspension is being handed down by the AFL and not the club.

North made comment that they weren’t even aware of the allegations until it was reported by Fat Head’s kid.

If the AFL are as professional as they claim to be, then why wasn’t the club told first before their minions go running to the first person they can find in the media.

If you ask me it’s totally unprofessional behaviour by the AFL, or are we now saying Todd Viney is telling porky pies and they knew all along?

If the club want him gone there is every chance they've asked the AFL legal counsel to confirm they can sack him and clear the player payments. Means of course whatever little trade value he had, if any, is gone.

As talented as he is the time and energy wasted can now be re-directed to the rest of the team, which counter intuitively, probably means we will be a better team overall without him. The line in the sand.

I don’t believe this for a second, North would’ve been aware of everything, it’s just an easy out for them in front of the media.
Pointing the media to the afl to talk on the matter.

I can't see anything to show the timing of these "latest texts".

Are these texts from before or after he did all the rehabilitation work last year?

At this stage there is nothing to indicate the texts that were put on Instagram and then reported on by the Herald Sun are the same ones the AFL are investigating and there's no dates on them (although Tarryn's reference to women he had abused may indicate it was after last years saga).

Apart from that, until the AFL releases their findings, we are all in the dark as to the case they have and the timing of it.
