The whole thing is symptomatic of the Australian team at the moment.

they are all about seeming and not doing.

We have a "plan" to rest/rotate whatever it is called bowlers regardless of whether they are in form or need it. This is demonstrably a stupid and pointless exercise given the never end spate of injuries the current crop are getting. Why even bother? It is probably lack of work that is causing the injuries. God knows it can't be the workload.

The simple focus should be getting the 4 best bowlers that are fit on the park that will do best in the current conditions. That is all. Amazingly this process has worked for 100 years or so.

Similarly getting the best wicketkeeper in the country to play would be a good start. Wade has been ordinary in his primary role. Pick whoever is going to take the catches and get the stumpings first and worry about runs from the position later.

Similarly pick the 6 best batsmen regardless of age or view to the future to win the next match.

Try winning the game at hand for a change by playing cricket and not writing essays.

Meh, when Michael Vaughan justifiably takes the piss out of Australian cricket you know you have really screwed the pooch.

This is a self made problem. This is all at managements feet because of systematic bureaucratization and arse covering through management systems designed to justify and protect their own positions. It has nothing to do with being a professional sportsman or team discipline.

Didn't seem to do so well as Australia's batting coach tho...
We certainly seemed to perfect the "collapse" under his coaching, that's for sure.

Amazingly the sport was amateur for 100 years or so.

Amazingly most cricketers still had another job for 100 years or so.

Amazingly there was no T20s for 100 years or so.

Amazingly the sport is not the same as it was for 100 years or so.

Just so I can get this straight, are actually people that think that dropping players over the non-sending of an SMS is a fair and proportional response?

You are over-simplifying things. They had 6 days to come up with 3 of their own thoughts on how to improve the team after one of our worst performances and didn't bother to complete it. SMS was one of the ways to deliver it, they also could have emailed it, written it down heck they could have chosen interpretive dance if they wanted but still didn't care enough about the team to do it.

12/16 players comprehended the task enough to get it on time, but you will happily make excuses for the 4 who don't care enough about the team to do it?

For some reason that gave me the laugh I needed after a particularly shitful day. Thankyou. :)

That's got nothing to do with the comment. Mark Waugh was not a waste to the Australian test team.

Waugh wasn't a complete waste.

My point is that Waugh is seen by many as a partially wasted talent. Langer is not. Langer is a thinker who was prepared to give different ideas a go. Waugh was not.

Are these different ideas necessary? I think so, as far as they help players improve. Is a suspension justified for an infraction of this nature? Absolutely not.

Really? Our batting has gone to the dogs since he left.

it had gone to the dogs long before that. Plus he had guys like Hussey & Ponting in the team. I'm not having a personal dig at the guy, he was great player. Loved him and Hayden opening the batting. But I was thoroughly unimpressed with our batting performances when he was coaching.

No one said he was. The claim was that he was a wasted talent. I can't write it in crayon for you, since this is the internet, but to be clear: Mark Waugh had loads of talent but ended his career with a mediocre record. Statistically worse than most of the other guys he batted with. Langer ended up a better bat than M. Waugh, despite being far less talented. The discussion as about attitude. Langer's is good. Mark Waugh's was not.

Not excuses per se, but simply pointing out that the punishment doesn't fit the crime. This could have been dealt with a manner that wouldn't have weakened an already weak side or had photos of the VC checking out of his hotel and heading home half way through the tour splashed all over the papers

To drop players for non-form or non-cricketing reasons used to be reserved for the most of heinous of crimes. This isn't that. Not even ****ing close.

Who's the best batting coach in the world? How many can you name without googling?

Neil De Costa
Andy Flower
John Rogers
Gary Kersten
Graham Thorpe

Off the top of my head.

Indian bloke is pretty sharp, can't remember his name, starts with a V
