Watson is clearly disillusioned since the departure of Ponting as Captain; sad to see, but it'd be nice if people at least wondered why, considering Watson is a two time AB Medallist who has busted his arse to come back from injury after injury to play cricket for Australia.

Apparently Watson was pissed off that Clarke said Watson had to bowl if he was going to be in the team. He said this during our summer not about the Indian tour. These 2 have a lot of bad blood by the looks of it.

Get dropped for disciplinary reasons.... one player leaves the tour and talks about retiring from test cricket, another mans up and says 'i was in the wrong, i'll cop it'.

If any of those guys can't take a look at their game and see how they can contribute to the team winning the next test they don't deserve to be there

I think the team is a couple of steps away from being considered underachievers.

For a lot of our batting line-up, their point of personal improvement should be along the lines of having a better defensive technique so that they don't get out to the first good ball that comes along. Likewise our spinners should be along the lines of learning how to bowl spin that lures the batsman into taking risks through deception. But these skills take time to develop. It's a bit too late to be asking mediocre players what they can do to become elite within the space of one week. That's why I think the homework exercise was a bit pointless in the first place.

hmmm...well-written post but I still disagree Admiral

I don't think poor form in India is to do with skills - I actually think it's about confidence, patience and mental preparation

therefore, no-one is seeking to make them better players in the space of a week, just to put them in a headspace that allows them to 'play better' in that timeframe

Watson's batting is nowhere near good enough of late to demand a place as a batsman. If he doesn't want to bowl the best way is to actually score some runs

Given his reaction to being dropped, and the fact that he couldn't be stuffed doing what was asked of him in the first place, I'm wondering why on earth he is even vice-captain. He clearly hasn't got the maturity for the job.

If that's the case, well done to clarke.

In regards to Watson, this point is what erks me about him. He can be pissed about the decision (which is justifiable), but this attitude/reaction is completely defeatist. 'To hard and unfair so maybe I'll just quit'... he is teasing us he'll quit, which is what children do.

You're missing the point completely. These are highly paid sportsmen, some of them receiving more than a million dollars annually, and should be doing everything asked of them.
Maybe they should try swapping places with someone making $18.00 bucks an hour working in a warehouse for a little while.
Been a life long supporter of cricket, but it's getting harder and harder by the day to show any interest t all in these over indulged, underachieving petulant and unprofessional schoolboys

If you're making $18 an hour working in a warehouse, that's your fault!

They get paid for what they do, and you get paid for what you do. Is it the player's fault that sponsors and fans think what they do is more important than what your boss thinks you do?

Depends what you mean by team man. I get the impression Hussey is the better teammate, and Clarke is the better team leader.

Clarke and Arthur clearly have a mandate to do what it takes to create a new team culture with young inexperienced players, much as Border and Simpson did in the 80s. It requires a degree of pigheadedness and unpopularity.

What makes you think Clarke is a better leader; what's that view based upon?

There is more to the Watson situation i think than has been publicized. There has to be.

My wild assumption is Clarke/Arthur have used the situation to strip Watto of the VC for good. Knowing the writings on the wall and that Clarke is a selector, Watto is now not a mandatory selection (now hes not VC), he's packed up and pissed off home early and knows Clarke wont pick him again anyway so calls his retirement. Clarke gets to pick one of his mates for the VC, probably Warner.

/Que intrigue

Don't disagree, but that wasn't the question I asked.

What has happened to Watson, one of the most passionate, intense blokes in the side, that's it's come to this?

Lol wat...you don't win the drawn series, you merely retain the trophy.

A drawn series is a drawn series.

thanks Captain Obvious

it really is useful when someone chimes in late with very little context of the discussion and is happy to refuse to read back through the thread to catch up

now that you've cleared up the ongoing confusion around whether a drawn series is actually a drawn series, I think we can safely close this thread

:thumbsu:

It's a pretty poor effort for them not to do their work. I mean Warner even managed this:

i hope you're a schoolkid using you're Mum's computer - if not, then I suspect you are one lonely individual without much prospect of changing your outlook in life

either way, good luck with that

POST OF THE YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!

yawn!

it's been doing the rounds on Twitter all day and is actually not that funny...

...unless I've missed something...can you explain to me why you think it's funny?

3-point plan to why we are losing!

1. Shit coach and shit administration!
2. Low team morale
3. Being asked to "do homework" on why we suck, rather than practise batting and bowling!
The two aren't mutually exclusive.

They could have spent all of half an hour doing their "homework", which would have left oh, I don't know, five days (?) to still practice their cricket.

Two markedly different reactions.

Pattinson, the only player of the 4 in form: "Yep, I stuffed up. My bad."
Watson, the vice captain: "Might quit Cricket"

Says it all really.

(Probably already posted but get stuffed I'm reading back through 750 posts looking for it to Like)

Great comeback! So, you can't refute my point, and instead just call me a child.

Which part of my post is wrong?

Loser!
