Didn't see the game today but his goal kicking action is text book. Often his shots at goal are from more difficult positions and you can draw a straight line from him to the goal umpire - one of the straightest kicks of the footy I have seen.

Yes, that's why it was so frustrating when he chose to lob it in to the square instead of taking the shot.

Like the time Tippa was passing it off against GC a few years back - the best kicks just need to be selfish to do the team thing. I like that we have a potential forward line of very good kicks going forward- can cut teams up in no time.

They can do all the homework they like… back or mid, he’ll never have anything like the impact on a game that he had today.

He has forward craft and knows where to run. Most footballers don’t.

He is a superb set shot kick.

He's very consistent on a wing.

Last year when he came back and he played forward and was pretty average. I agree, we should play him in his best position, which is a wing with stints inside 50.

If we have Wright, Stringer, Perkins, Davey, Jones/Weid, Menzie/Tippa establish themselves as a forward 6 then I’m very comfortable having a gun utility to throw around as required. Gives us enormous flexibility. The fact that he has gained confidence in being a hit-up defender to go with his other positional talents means that whenever we have a round hole to fill we don’t need to rely on a square peg.

If we're lining up 90% of the players in their best position and not really shoe horning anyone into roles (laverde aside) i dont mind langford being moved about.
He's a proper utility. Game iq, disposal skill and has found a bit of strength in the contest

Yeah maybe. We are utter experts at not playing anybody in their best position though. Cox is a great example. He came to us 2.5 years ago and immediately people were asking what he was. 2.5 years later we don’t know. How that is possible at a professional football club is baffling.

Apparently McGrath is a small defender. Ok. Why did that take six years?

I could go on all night, but everybody knows the details.

I'm sure it does but I'm convinced few clubs are as bad as us at it.

Our development is a shemozzle and has been for years. There's many factors but I'm sure this is a big part of it.

It'll sound stupid but I reckon it's partly a hangover of the Sheedy years... he loved "versatility" and throwing players around and I think it strongly influenced Dodoro, who is obviously a stupidly big influence on everything at EFC.

He looks for players that he thinks can do multiple roles and our whole shit excuse for a "plan" for their careers starts to fall apart before it's started.

Remove Daniher & Jobe as father sons, and our drafting has largely been hybrid types, hence the criticism of him loving a flanker

Heppell - HBF to midfield to HBF to wing
Langford - HFF/mid* (also ruck and defence )
Laverde - HFF/HBF/mid*
McGrath - mid/HBF
Parish - mid
Merrett - mid
Tsatas - mid/wing
Francis - HBF/HFF/mid*
Redman - HFF/wing/HBF
Perkins - HFF/mid*
Cox - ? who even knows
+ a bunch of key backs (Reid, Zerk, Hayes, Brand, Eyre)
*potential to be a mid as u18. limited exposure.

This is why we see it more than other sides. Through sheer necessity. 2 out and out mids drafted, plus another 2 recruited from other clubs in over 10 years.

Going to be interesting to see how Scott handles him from here. In the interview after the game, Langford said he hadnt spent a minute training with the forward group. He is of course a natural forward but if you want tons of forward pressure, how do you fit him and Stringer up there with another couple of talls. At least Langford and Stringer can rotate through midfield too, which is probably the answer.

It certainly does. Look at balta from Richmond, has played back forward and ruck

I'd hope to never see him down back again.

Martin, Durham and/or even Massimo on the wings - Langford forward. Yes, he's fine on the wing. But the fact he can do what he did when he was forward yesterday to me means he just has to play there.

I hope we just leave Stringer in the 2's for a few weeks and leave this guy to ply his craft in the forward line. Until Stringer can run out a full game at over 80% TOG, we shouldn't let him anywhere near AFL.

Langers and Jones have big engines, are highly mobile, great contested marks and accurate kicks for goal. I think it's a pretty good pairing.
