Trump has shown if your willing to lick his boots all will be forgiven.

So, I don't think this is clumsiness on her part, or principles. I think it's a gamble.

She is gambling that at some point, Trumpism blows up in the GOPs face.

For example, one of the court cases against Trump bites.

She is gambling that at some point the GOP is going to be looking for an experienced conservative relatively untouched by Trump.

Despite voting in line with Trump, she can say she was just voting in line with conservative values, and she was so anti Trump, they kicked her for it.

A gamble, but the reward if it pays of will be huge.

I think it's a crap plan. The problem would be that if Trump is found guilty enough that Trumpism is crushed, then the Republican Party will implode/splinter. he QAnons will be off on some tangent. Some of them will be staying loyal to Trump, the traditional base has long since left.

The GOP has pinned itself to Trump and if he goes down, then it goes down for at least a decade. If he doesn't go down completely, he'll keep getting nominated and running election after election until he hands the mantle over to Don Jnr or Ivanka (Anyone thinking it will go outside the family doesn't understand Trump and his distrust of every single person around him other than some family members).

It would be a pyrrhic victory for Cheney. She could dance on the political grave of Trump but she'd be doing it from the minority. Plus, the majority of Congress who are left will just pretend they never supported Trump and go on about their normal business. Being disloyal to the "party" will be punished worse than being stupid and following Trump. McConnell, Graham, McCarthy, Cruz will all just pretend that they were always against Trump, like they flip-flopped towards him the first time.

Conservatives love them a cancel-culture and hypocrisy, it's why they spot it everywhere on the left.

In the last weeks of Trumps reign, his DOJ tried to find out the folks behind 'Devin Nunes Cow' and other twitter paraody accounts mocking Nunes. Trump DOJ Tried to Unmask User Behind Devin Nunes Parody Twitter Account (thedailybeast.com) Good to see Twitter standing firm. It's a corruption of the DOJ really, not surprising as Trump corrupts everything he touches.

Added - there is a link to Twitters response which includes the fact that Nunes was the sponsor of the 'Discouraging Frivolous Lawsuit act'. You really couldn't make this stuff up.

Good article about the current absurd state of the republicans thanks to the work of the great vandal.

But also striking how a lot of the comments below the article are so damn civilised. More of that please.
