he calls for the ball 10 metres out from his teammate all the time then appears shocked when it's called 'not 15, play on'.
That f@#king frustrates the hell out out me but it's not just him, half this midfield does it - bad enough umpires don't know how far 15m is but then your own players...
Frustrated Fuck My Life GIF

Hypothetical question - if we'd have traded say a R3 or a R4 pick for him, instead of pick 25. Would he still be seen as negatively as he is?

Obviously, the bigger the captital given, the higher the expectation of the player but has this clouded our judgement on him?

He is infuriating none the less

If he cost what he should have a 2026 R3, then no, I doubt there'd be any crying.

Would be viewed differently
As in that scenario we likely still also have pick 2

And would’ve just used pick 25 on the best KPP in the draft available be it Whitlock x 2, sims, shanahan etc

Seems to me he is being coached to play that way because they are so desperate to have the ball in his hands.
Desperate to have the ball in his hands because he's a good distributor? Or desperate to have the ball in his hands to justify the trade? I think it's the latter.

Look at Darling for your answer. There would still be some angst at the way he is playing but not to the extent that there is now. And that’s because we paid way overs for Daniel. :stern look

Same amount of coaches votes as Big X.

For reference here X was the highest rated player of any side on the ground with a player rating of 20.8 - 3.9 points higher than his expected rating

Daniel was the 26th highest rated player on the ground. With a rating of 8.8 - 0.2 points lower than his expected rating.

If the vote came from Clarko, it was a sympathy bone from the butcher. Powell and Hardemann should be filthy. Some idiot on the AFL report also had him in there as well in our best. We know the Charlie B voting is flawed, but they should be able to get this shite right.

I almost put the car in a pole when I heard we paid #25.

I think I sat in my living room with my head in my hands at the end of the draft knowing what it forced us to do.

It ****ed our rebuild, there and then.

People are being way too kind.

He’s not cost #25.

He’s cost us Pick #2 in reality.

We get both the Whitlocks without the move and are in no way as desperate on draft night.

Rawlings should resign on this deal alone.

It was called almost instantly how little margin for error there was. I kept hearing “there’s no excuses now etc etc”

Everyone’s pretty damn silent now. Don’t worry, it will sink in on draft night when Richmond take 2 players in the top 3 this offseason…

Talk and optics means absolutely **** all with a group of mental short people like we have.

You watch, Clarko and Rawlings will double down this offseason. They will trade a F1 for unders to get back in the draft.

Everyone will continue to back Clarko and unzip like he is a messiah.

3 diabolically bad trades in a row like this will kill us, another 5-10 years in the wilderness.

For the first time in our history (almost more grave than the GC saga) I have genuine concerns about our real future.

Cal Twomey last week mentioned pick 2 in this year's draft was the equivalent to pick 10 in a normal draft, such how weak this year is.

Need to keep that in mind.
Oh - that makes me feel better, thanks.

He'd be far more droppable that's for sure and it would be less embarrassing for all involved.

I was barracking for the roos watching on the weekend but geez Daniel drove me nuts. First he asks for so many handball receives and then he bounces the ball after 3 steps, the forwards are leading and he's bouncing the ball and a couple of he's defensive efforts were not up to senior footy at any grade. Looks like he's playing for himself only

I must be the only one who thought he played well for most of the game. Had a shithouse effort on Crisp at half-back late in the third, but up to that point, was doing exactly the role we asked of him and giving us consistent precision out of the defensve 50. Seemed obvious to me at the time that we were breaking down with the long bombs inside 50, not the distribution from half-back.

Maybe my eyes are painted on
He can play, but he’s clever in the way he gets the ball, in not dangerous positions. I also reckon the Pies didn’t mind him getting the ball either, he’s never “breaking zones” with that lack of penetration. Reminds me of Brady’s time in defence, later in his career, opposition were more than happy for him to be the 20 metre target from a kick on or switch.

Yep agree with all this. Shithouse all round.

If we'd done that he wouldn't be getting a game every week to prove the investment was worth it

Can we let this week prove once and for all that coaches votes are not a strong metric of success?
Maybe when he was preparing his votes, the collingwood coach asked somebody in the box, "Who's that North bloke wearing the helmet" and instead of saying "Xerri" the assistant yelled back "Caleb Daniel".

And that is what's been put in the book.
