Player Watch #5: Caleb Daniel

I enjoyed the 178cm behemoth Schulz barrel him over like Schulz was Wayne Carey.

That said I feel sorry for Daniel, he's a decent player but bodies are bigger and faster and Bulldogs correctly identified his level as state league 2 years ago.

Hardly a shame he's a hard working premiership player but it often feels we're just doubling down playing him.

It is exactly what we’re doing.

He typically does some ok-ish stuff some of the time most games.

But the price that we have to pay for that ok-ish stuff through the game having gone past him is pretty high.

If I had to choose between a kid with an unknown upside doing ok-ish stuff or Daniel doing ok-ish stuff I’d much prefer we opt for someone who may have a future

He was brought in as an elite distributor and he isn’t even that.

He’s as slow as treacle and can’t defend either.

At the moment if they are going to play him, I would actually rather they get him out of the back half where he is a defensive liability.

100% and this is a big part of why I tend to be a bit devil's advocate with him (plus I think our general shitness gets blamed on him too much as if he is the only weak defensive link which kind of annoys me on principle).

But yeah, it's not his fault the club were dingbats and offered more than they should. That's entirely on them.
