I think you need to take the beer goggles off Pickett and macca arent great kicks by anyone’s estimation , without looking at the stats I’d suggest his eff is all over there’s . He prob doesnt cover the ground like these blokes and I agree above his contested isn’t a standout , if it’s improved ball use we re after than he should be in the 22
Ross's footskills are on par with Maccas.

Think skill wise he is pretty decent it’s more the actual decision making that lets him down if that makes sense

Kicks are good but the areas that he chooses to kick to not sure much

He used the ball by foot very well late last year. Think your memory is based on that time when he was in and out of the side like a yoyo and lost all confidence. When in form there is nothing wrong with his footskills.

Again, with confidence and continuity his decision making is fine. Must be hard right now, they want to play him but he doesn't have a position because of new recruits and real talent like Sonsie coming through. Still maintain he is a good way in front of Clarke.

I'm not a massive Jack Ross fan but I do think he should be playing in front of some of players currently in the team.

Midfield. Attended 9 centre bounces plus however many stoppages for a grand total of 0 clearances though :$

Dimma will bring him back in though
Don't see why Cotch can't be sub again, after all he played nearly 3/4 of the game.
Ross for Graham is a better fit, because both are half forwards primarily.

My concern with Ross is his lack of pace. It’s significant. Hurts us both offensively and defensively because he can’t chase down an opponent in the clear. Nor can Taranto or Cotch now so to have 3 in the midfield is a liability from that point of view. I think he’s somewhere between VFLl and AFL but it is his slowness that costs him. A good trier though.

But he doesn't play midfield much. He's been tossed around everywhere perhaps because of what you are saying. Same reason Graham doesn't get much of a run through the middle. But he is pretty close like for like with Graham, who is a better pressure gut running half forward, but Ross on recent form has him on the more creative form. Also quite a good gut runner these days.

Another dominant performance by Rossy today in the VFL. One thing that has definitely improved is his work rate. He is now running harder across the ground on the spread and is finding the pill. Needs to be rewarded for his form.

Does everything well but I reckon he just lacks a bit of pace. Still, he deserves a go in the middle.

Whenever he's actually been played in the middle at AFL level, he's impressed. It's when they've tried him on the wing, at half back, outside the centre square that he struggles.

Have a look at the Ross first qtr of the final vs bris. Started on the wing and did well..kmac runs a marathon each game. Pity AFL isn't a athletics carnival.

Here are a couple of things to consider:

Luke Dunstan had 48 disposals and 2 goals in the VFL
James Harmes had 36 disposals and 3 goals

The positive is 6 tackles and 10 marks to go with Ross’s 31 disposals.

Ross is a solid player but he doesn’t have an elite work rate, he’s relatively slow, he doesn’t have elite disposal, he doesn’t dominate in the contest and he doesn’t dominate around goals or aerially.

However, he could be a player in a similar mould to a Jack Steele or Josh Kennedy. Both of those guys took a few years to come good. His biggest competition is Cotch and Graham. Cotch is on the way out but has experience, Graham has a greater work rate. Ross needs to get to more contests and find an area he can dominate in.

I think he can make a greater contribution to our fortunes than macca

I’d be cautious dropping Macca until we have another hardworking runner to cover our wings. He’s not far from done so we really need to find someone and so far Ralphsmith isn’t up to it and Ross isn’t that type of runner.

PLAY HIM OR LOSE HIM. DESERVES A GO.
for different reasons you would think only one of ross, graham and cotchin will be at the club next year
