He's a very well rounded and consistent player with clear leadership attributes. Once Hopper and Prestia are kicked out of the midfield permanently he will only get better. He will continue to be harshly judged due to Yze insisting on playing the full gumboot brigade every week.

If only he was a fraction quicker.

Should be leading our midfield ahead Taranto and hopper imo.

Taranto is our next captain but he’s a half forward/ mid rotation.

Players that are being mentioned as being too slow are Prestia , Hopper & Taranto

Taranto i have no idea why he keeps getting mentioned as he is our B & F player and always plays a great game ( apart from his kicking) his game is A grade

Prestia just plays limited minutes and still racks up possessions and uses it well, Played 69% game time and accumulated 28 touches . So effectively a player we use off the bench the most

Hopper is the main player that puts things into dispute due to his speed mainly but he is an accumulator and can rely on him to get 25+ touches a game

The main issue is when we have more than 1 in the midfield at any given time and thats a coaching issue
We can play all 3 in a 23 player team but not 2 in the midfield at the same time

Jack Ross seems to be the player moved around to accommodate these 3 players play at the same time
but this issue will end at the season end with Prestia's retirement

I think you are being a little kind to Hopper. Yes he accumulates, but his job is to get under the pack and try and get it out. He does that okay, but his possessions, especially by foot unless he is on his own, the pas to Lefau, be just bangs it on his boot.

Prestia to his credit has upped his gave way over last year where he was pretty ordinary.

But the problem is not what they can do but what they can't, run and chase back into defence. They get burned off on the spread. That is why we keep getting blown out, they and the kids get slower the longer the game goes. That is not what you want your senior players doing.

Ross and McAuliffe to their credit, get back and help defensively.

Hopper finished 3rd in our B & F and had a great 2025 season
I think we are all more conscious of his limitations due to him being out of form
But when he is playing well we dont see that as much and averaged 27 touches a game at 66% for an inside mid thats great

Agree that he was pretty good last year but again it’s what he, being the slowest of a slow midfield can’t do that hurts us more, keep up with quick mids. And being out of form doesn’t help. We were so much better this week with only Prestia and the younger mids in there.

Doesnt every team have a mid thats slow
just that you dont have 3 all in the middle at the same time

Steele , Neal , Cripps , Pendles etc

Neale is not slow, gets a lot of ball on the outside. Yes the other 3 are slow, but they use if so well, Pendelbury one of the best ever. When they get it their team mostly goes forward or at least retain possession. You only have to look at the difference when Lalor gets it, Ross is pretty constructive and even McAuliffe last week used it well.

A poster on here did the numbers on midfield users, and Hopper was on the bottom of the ladder of midfielders for good ball use in the league, Prestia was second lowest. Prestia has probably improved, but Taranto would be down there as well.

Ross ran average 9.3kmh was the best on the field vs MFC.
183 Sparrow was up there too.
Pickett & KMac the fastest 2.

Sparrow & Pickett killed it.

Bolton's speed just ain't been replaced. The mix is slow.

yes, he has really stood up with the captaincy the last couple of weeks. still a bit to match, but his attack on the ball on a few occasions has been Cotchin like.

the goal of this season was to see what we have and jack has shown he can be much better than just best 23.
