Don't all Asians born here have an Aussie accent?

Or are you specifically talking about the, 'gday mate throw a shrimp on the barbie gazza' accent?

I think that would be the one.

Agreed about the half-breeds. Was a half-Asian half-Anglo chick who was bartender at a nightspot I frequented many times who was just about the most gorgeous girl I've ever seen.

Interested in the thoughts of those of the one background.

Say someone was x/y, eg Thai/Anglo, would you consider that person to be less Thai and less Anglo than their counterparts that are either Thai or Anglo?

In my opinion I don't think so.

I think such people are both Thai and Anglo, as much as their monoracial counterparts. The only thing that would be 'lesser' is how thai or how anglo they look, but it doesn't necessarily mean that the person would know any less about their comprising backgrounds.

This is why I personally prefer the term 'mixed' than 'half', as 'half' makes me think 'less than full'.

Would be interesting to read your thoughts though.

Mixed sounds like some sort of concoction whereas half just describes the sum of parts included that make up the whole. TBH I don’t really care what we call anyone born of two or more nationalities they are no different then us maybe the women are a little hotter.

On a side note my wife is half Chezc half Serb so she is not a bad sort either.

All I can say is we need to do is:

Look to the cookie!

A good friend of mine, of indian heritage was adopted in Australia, and grew up here with an australian accent, though very proper, almost British undertones.

She was teaching in japan, and had to teach English with an American accent.

So these poor kids had an Indian lady, speaking "British" english, with an aussie twang, and then getting them to say sentences with a yank drawl.

confusing to say the least.

I am a Eurasian male. Do you think this appreciation of 'halfies' by Australian men also applies for Australian women?

My thinking is maybe not to the extent that us men appreciate the women. My half Filipino mate reckons he has a bit of trouble with some girls, but he still seems to do alright. Any girl who doesn't want you cos you're half Asian is a racist bitch anyway. No loss.

This question has been bugging me for a while, since the goldrush in the 1850's there were supposedly thousands of Asians that came to Australia. Why is it, that I have never met an Australian/Asian that was 7th generation Australian.. The most I have ever met is 3rd..

Source - http://www.immi.gov.au/media/publications/research/_pdf/poa-2008.pdf - 1.1MB, right click to save (The People of Australia - Statistics from the 2006 Census. See Table 14 on page 56 - pdf 66)

According to the 2006 Census, there were 31,626 third or more generation Australians of Chinese ancestry.

The Census only asks about parents' countries of birth (and if born in Australia, make them at least second generation but possibly more), not grandparents.

A person is first generation Australian if they were born overseas and migrated to Australia.

Given the restrictions in immigration between 1901 and 1973 (White Australia Policy), one can assume that the majority of these 31,626 Chinese Australians would be at least fourth generation, a few even more. Most of their forebears would have arrived in Australia between 1818 and 1890.

Kylie Kwong is fourth generation and her great-grandfather arrived sometime in the 1880s.

You will probably come across these gold rush digger descendent Aussies in the towns where their ancestors came to settle. There are large old Chinese families in Darwin, Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Cairns etc. They are amongst the old respected pioneer families.

The same applies to Sikhs (the ones who wear Turbans) from India or Sri Lanka/Ceylon who have been in Australia since the 1850s.

Mickeybee - look for the families that are large with intermingled Italian, English, Indigenous etc relatives.

31,626 within a population of 20 million people - Mickeybee, the odds are very slim.

Unless you look like Craig Wing, nah, you're dusted.

Actually, I'm not even sure Wing is a halfie? Good looking bloke though, if i don't mind saying so myself. :D

girls generally do find 'half' asian guys hot.. just prob not as aware of the 'halfie' stereotype as much as guys are with girls, but doesn't make the actual observation any less true

j-train and chopsticks seem to not be aware of this or not give credit where credit is due.. maybe based on the stereotype of 'full' asian guys

most women would find the following as lookers:

your point?

just because someone has one white parent as opposed to two, doesn't make them any less white than you, they just have two cultures as opposed to one. the only thing that might not be as 'white' is how 'white' they facially appear.

your post reeks of ignorance

^I think that's the great thing with Australia, and narrow-minded people in terms of race.

There is a very high chance that their children will become friends or even marry people from other races, as the embracement of other cultures becomes greater and greater with each upcoming generation.

I love how this could tear the narrow-minded parent up inside, mentally.

The bulk of the brazilian population is neither white or black, the majority are mixed.
Actually 42.3% are Mixed race while 49.3% are White. The Black population of Brazilian is about 7.4%.

Brazil has the largest White population in the Southern Hemisphere, and the third largest in the World, after the United States and Russia. The main ancestries of White Brazilians are Portuguese, Italian, Spanish and German.
