Anyone else expect him to retire before his 3 year contract is up.

Wonder if they would have taken him had they landed Geoff Walsh before Free Agent period kicked off

Very small chance he makes it through the three years. Better chance this is his last year imo.

Just on what Buckley said "15 weeks a year".

That's not really a surprise to alot of us here and probably realistic.
But when ur giving him 550-600k a year Bucks was better of keeping that in house imo especially for his supporters.

However, Buckley conceded star recruit Daniel Wells still had "a little bit of work to do" before he makes his club debut after ongoing calf trouble.

"The clock's ticking, we're three weeks away from round one, but we also won't be forcing him in before he's ready."

Blessing in disguise?

MAGPIE STAR YET TO TRAIN WITH MAIN GROUP
BY BEN CASANELIA 5 HOURS AGO

Less than three weeks from the start of the 2017 season and Collingwood star Adam Treloar has admitted he’s yet to see Daniel Wells train with the main group.

Wells, whose three-year deal to join the Magpies after 14 years at North Melbourne raised eyebrows, has battled a persistent calf injury and is already ruled out for the club’s Round 1 opener against reigning premier Western Bulldogs. He will be 35 when his contract expires at end of 2019.

“I’ve only seen him train away from the track because he hasn’t spent too much time on the ground,” Treloar told SEN’s The Run Home.

“But from what I’ve seen the way he attacks his rehab he’s really diligent with how he wants to get his body right and right now that’s his calf. He’s been super professional.”

The 32-year-old’s commitment to training has been a talking point throughout summer after it was rumoured he returned to training out of shape. Former teammate Nick Dal Santo questioned Wells’ fitness, saying there’s “no secret he could train harder and probably more consistently”.

Wells has played 31 games over the last three years and has played 22 games in a season once in the past decade.

His absence is sure to be a topic of conversation given the stakes involved for Collingwood and coach Nathan Buckley this season.

The Pies are winless from two JLT Community Series matches – the combined margin of defeat has been 13 points – and will round-out preparations this weekend against Richmond in Moe.

$400k and an extra season to play footy you'd say yes as well.

He got paid plenty when he missed a squillion games.

s**t bloke and the most wasted talent at North since Sam Kekovich.

Of all the things one can talk about they want to go for the one thats most obvious, everyone knows that but it doesnt need to be discussed. Its a backhander to our club and our brand from people who are employed to call and discuss football in a mature , reasonable matter ......if I wanted to listen to sch1t talk I only have to go into a pub on a saturday afternoon/night and listen to the dribble......not switch on a radio where corporate dollars flow and hear that crap.
