I'd tell Stewart his services are no longer needed the morning of the grand final.......
Fire the fraud Alan stewart
The one loss we had in the couple of years after our flag that hurt was losing Alan Scott as our financial rock.He poured millions of dollars of his own money into the club. After he went, as our major sponsor financially we went down hill very quickly we couldn't replace his financial dollars $$$ and still today we haven't been able too. I think his loss is underestimated by alot of people.Everything that smacked of "Mission Accomplished". That includes, letting Bucky go, drinking Choco's Kool Aid, letting Carr go, backing Primus, not organising a succession plan for Clarkson to take over, letting Andrew Russell go. I'm sure there is more.
The problem is that we had been conditioned by our time in the SANFL to think that this was a beginning of an era of dominance. And bathwater was drunk.

Media hype. Outside doing a good job on the inaugural squad, which wasn't that hard, and first few years draft, look at his drafting 2001-04 period. Full of duds. His final draft in 2004 was a disgrace. What's the reason for the Alan Stewart remorse? My apparently naieve understanding was he was the universally revered type?
Set the club back years he did...the main reason why we had such a huge drop off from 08 onwards as we didn't have that quality 100 game types come through.Media hype. yep it took years to stand out like dog balls how bad it really was. This post by Portia in August 2011 pointed out how bad our 2001-05 draft was and 2004 his goodbye draft was exceptionally shit house.Set the club back years he did...the main reason why we had such a huge drop off from 08 onwards as we didn't have that quality 100 game types come through.
A sniper to take out Williams.
Should have left on a high.
Give job to Clarkson.

Yeah that's true.We have a similar issue brewing now. From our selections in the 5 drafts between 2008 and 2012 we only have Hartlett (coming back from injury), Broadbent (possibly cooked), Wines and Clurey remaining.
It’s a massive, massive hole that needs plugging.
Yeah that's true.
Hey guys we lack speed and skill, pace through the midfield... Let's trade out 25 yo Chad and 26 yo polec...oh and most of our second and third round picks for the next two drafts..
Who the actual fk comes up with this shit..
The list is in alsorts.
It's why I started this thread to complete Portia's August 2011 post re our drafting and trading. Our drafting of first rounds and picks in the 20's and 30's has improved since 2001-05 period (2009 was a bloody disaster though - Hartley's last year to match Stewart's last year in 2004) but picks higher than 40 are diabolical and now we are losing those top 30 picks players in trades. It gets better. If we extend the bracket to include the 7 drafts between 2007-2013 we only add Amon and Sam Gray (rookie).
Lol our drafting has been f@&king diabolical.

Wouldn’t change a thing.
Hindsight is the prophecy of losers. I was going to do this. I wish we had done that.
Winners set about making the changes necessary in the present to affect the future.
I am trading out those who aren’t willing to sacrifice for the team.
I am recruiting those who will do whatever it takes to win a flag.
I am bringing in players with better disposal.
I am making decisions about the future of the club and seeing them through, even though the success of those decisions might not seem apparent in the short term.
In short...I’m doing what Port Adelaide is doing now.
So you wouldn't do anything differently between the 2004 Grand Final and today? Nothing?
I get you're all in on Hinkley but surely we could have set ourselves up better than we have for Hinkley to lead us to success?
It’s the mistakes that make the eventually victory sweeter. I don’t believe in living life with regrets.
Mistakes are fine, even good, when you learn from them. The repeat of the Choco contract debacle and returning to the well of small, smaller!, SMALLER!! as soon as injuries hit, hasn’t shown evidence of this anytime recently. They're not really supporters regrets though are they?
Mistakes are fine to a point. We don't want to go fifty years without a flag like Melbourne or St. Kilda.
Two 100 point plus wins in a finals series wonder if that's a record.I would have called a royal commission into Geelong's supplements strategy before the 2007 grand final.
