He's so good it's almost hard to believe he's ours. Which I guess highlights how low we've been through the years, to feel that way, but how nice it is to draft and be developing a genuine gun kid; someone who has real presence as soon as he runs onto the ground and a class above most.

Of course the key thing will be to not drive him into the ground. Recruiting beasts like Kerridge to be his partner in crime will certainly help though.

Great get, big body with skill who can run, the sort you want to build a midfield around.

Carlton needs young midfielders, our list was short on for good mids last season, there is a large group of our core mids nearing/entering their 30s, there is an alarming lack of midfield talent Carlton under 23 years of age at Carlton. Need about 10 good mids to be a top 4 side, if we don't start getting good young mids into our list we will bottom out in the post Judd, Carrazzo, Scotland, Simpson era. Don't believe half of what you hear in the media, we aren't that short on talls and this is a weak draft for them by all reports. Cripps is a Josh Kennedy type, the type that take you to flags.

Looks a strong powerful type who's got core strength and hits the contest in an impressive way, likes to build momentum at the lose ball. Similar attributes to Judd and Josh Kennedy. Hard to tackle, always a good sign.

Was reading the first few pages of this thread. gbatman was onto Crippa right away :thumbsu:

I don't share the negative feelings.

This kid had a huge growth spurt and is still getting accustomed to a bigger frame. He could be an absolute midfield truck like Jobe Watson (without the PEDs)

Definitely the sort we need, especially with an ever aging Judd.

Jobe Watson  Aim high, T2B_.

Pretty hard not to, he's a special player like Weitering. We haven't drafted many, we've rarely had any special players on our list in the last 15 years so we aren't used to seeing them. Look back into our pre 2000 history and we were always littered with them. I hope we can pick up a few more youngsters like this that you can look at instantly and know they will be stars of the competition.

OMG:eek: Definitely think that vid should be uploaded to the AFL's version of Redtube.......
the two clearances, one at around 3 mins, and the other at around 4 mins are just outstanding. to brush a tackle (one of them Hannerbery) and then take off and deliver the footy forward... wow. he's got some serious talent about him.

watch the connection with him and Kerridge... these two are going to terrorise midfields... he just keeps getting the ball out and finding people.. so good to watch.

Second disposal should have been in the back. Personally I'm not a fan of an in the back call when two players are both falling forward, but 99% of the time they call that.

As much as we are going to hear 'Kreuzer to Cripps' a LOT this season, I think we could also hear 'Cripps to Weitering' quite a bit too. Like the way Wheaties is willing to push up to the square and be a backwards option to move the ball forward, if that makes sense.

Isn't it funny. A guy like Bryce Gibbs was touted as the best junior of all time, taking the piss out of SANFL at aged 16 and an easy number 1 pick expected to have a massive AFL career.

With all due respect to Gibbsy who has been great for us, he's had a bit of a 'meh' career besides his BnF year.

Then there's Cripps who was classed as a reach for the first round, had ok stats as a junior and he is already a beast at AFL level in his 3rd year.

Credit to Rogers, fantastic pick.

Wasn't Cripps in the u-18 all Australian?

I have to wonder why he was seen as such a reach, given the upside he had and his junior highlights vid is still pretty impressive. Yeah I know, only highlights. Maybe only Rogers and co could truly see his absolute wizardry by hand and extraction ability. Great pick anyhow.

He was seen as a reach as he had a significant growth spurt in his U16 where he shot from a smaller player, to a big bodied mid. He was still learning to use his body, this along with him breaking his leg before the U18 season which affected his national championships. Was touted as a top 30 pick, however at 13 was seen as a big reach.

In the dark days of the early noughties, I always thought, "thank **** we have Fev", after that, "thank **** we have Juddy", now, "thank **** we have Cripps".

Stephen Wells was going to pick him with Geelong's first

Around 24 possessions, 16 contested and a goal in 53% game time against the swans.

FAR OUT!!! I'm certainly not ready for what he is going to bring this year. It's just too good to be true.

24 possessions in 53% game time would be impressive enough in itself, but it's scary that 16 of them were contested and most of his possessions were ball that he won rather than just some cheapies. He's a monster.

Jesus.....imagine Cripps in a midfield with Selwood, Dangerfield and Duncan.

Im a straight male who wants Cripps baby and have now officially decided to stalk him. Unofficially I will scratch the eyes out of any female who looks at him.

He's mine I tell you!
