Walker in the past has been a serviceable midfielder. This year his role seems to have changed and he is doing a great job as a small defender. The greatly publisiced move from Pavlich to CHF seems to be paying dividends.

The above two moves can be directly related to our recruiting. Without depth in the midfield the players mentioned above were being played in the midfield due to necessity.

And the final key to success may be McPharlin to FF. But its very early to tell. This move is only really possible with the improvement of our backline. Though we were missing Polak for the Melbourne game most people recognise he is our second choice for CHB after McPharlin. The move for Luke may only be complete when Polak returns and is fully fit. Until then i think we saw a window of the future fremantle forward line. You may find that McPharlin will return to CHB this week.

Great job as a small defender?

I guess you may be right, perhaps he's just shutting is opponent out of the game that the only thing I actually do notice him doing is terrible up and under kicks which are absolutely infuriating.

I'd be interested to know what everyone else thinks, cause so far I think he hasn't been very good and when Hayden is back from injury and back in form, could be in a bit of trouble.

Without a doubt Hayden is probably our number 1 small defender. But hasn't been at his best since 2003. Was riddled with injury last year and often had bags kicked against him. Though most players had seasons to forget all over the park.

Walker plays on the bench of my best 22. Your right his position is most definately not concrete.

But i can't remember small forwards troubling our defence greatly so far this season. Where last year and previous years they've torn us apart.

I think grandson has a few important assets.

He has experience.

He has brain

He will back himself with pace and usually win.

He has done more good than bad with Freo.

I hope he is still part of the best 22 if (when) we become a powerhouse.

but he rarely backs himself with pace,he should - but he doesnt. I also dont think he's a smart footballer. He has experience yes, but so does McManus ;)

People see different things through player's carreers. I have only seen the good things he does. :o

Honest hardworking contributor who has not had a great year apart from last week when he shut out Davey. Suffered a bad corkie in the game against StKilda and has still not fully recovered. CC loves him so he will always be in our best 22, I question his disposal skills and ability to make the right decisions under pressure.

Was excellent against Davey last week and from memory was very good against Sampi and Krakouer aswell. When Hayden and Polak return Hayden may take the oppositions best small forward, Parker will probably take the other small/medium forward and Walker may return to playing shut down roles further up the ground. Nathan Brown and Judd have killed us this season, and these are 2 players who Walker has played well on in the past.
