Bolded have absolutely nothing, or very little to do with a HBF, so you have just listed them to pad up Deledio's stats.

Murphy was a lot more influential coming off the HBF than Deledio, and set up more plays, and did the role of a HBF better, so he got it.

Deledio also played in the midfield a bit. Murphy did not. Of course his stats will be higher..

deledio by a mile!!! bloody robbed by charlie murphy!!! i suppose lids has alot more time to get AA's then pin head lol. still robbed, the panelist who choose these things has to be changed. MOY was a joke as well

Disagree with that. Outside of centre clearances, obviously not the job of a HBF, the others are all pertinent. Contested marks and posessions is showing an ability to beat an opponent 1 on 1, which I think as a defender is critical. Goals and Inside 50s are also a good stat for a HBF as it shows they are providing run and creativity out of defence.

Stats show the Deledio most certainly should have been considered for a spot in the side.

Happy that R Murphy got a gig, but I think that he was shaded this year by certainly Scotland, probably Birchall and possibly deledio.

Lids only conceded 14 goals this year. In a team that averaged around 100 points against.
I'd suggest that's indicative of who he lined up on/lined up on him, and where, more than anything else.

Certainly wasn't getting #1 or even #2 small/mid forwards whenever I watched; whereas Murphy was pretty much starting the same deep spot every week and taking whoever went there.
He was back close to full-time whereas Deledio was maybe 50% back, and spent a lot of time midfield, tagging or wing.

Scotland was better than both of them, so I'm not sure why Richmond fans are so up in arms about it. Even if Murphy wasn't selected I still would have expected Scotland to make the team ahead of him.

Yep, 100% correct, Scotland easily ahead of both of them.

Deledio is a much better player than Murphy. More strings to his bow and as much as people want to argue I think the stats are pretty indicative of how much more he does. I understand stats aren't everything, but they certainly do give a good indication.

At the end of the day who cares if Lids isn't AA as he is a gun player and I wouldn't even consider trading a 24 yr old Deledio for a 24 yr old Robert Murphy.

Plenty, it would seem.

I don't really see what the fuss is.
Deledio had a pretty good year, playing all over the park.
Murphy also had a pretty good year, playing half-back every week.

Every year we complain the line between 'midfield' and genuine small backs/small fwds/wings is getting blurred & AA picks too many mids & too few backs/fwds/wings...
This is one case where they've rewarded the genuine half-back
