I haven't been to Patterson oval in Perth but I was wondering how it compares to AAMI as far as distance from the CBD, age of the stadium and the level of facilities there?
I haven't heard either WCE or Freo bitching about the stadium and blaming it for all their woes like the mob of wharfies have.

Excluding our first season where we had inflated figures, you lot lost nearly as many spectators as we have. It is easy to check if you are interested.

Considering how crap we have done over the last few years one would think we would have lost way more spectators in terms of real numbers not % than you but we didn't.
In other words had if our on field fortunes were reversed chances are you lot would have lost more spectators than us.

That IMO says more about footy in SA or the stadium than it does the teams.

Footy in SA is fine. Whenever Port officials were commenting about their dire situation in the last few years they went out of their way to try and put in on SA footy rather than their own ineptitude. Continuing on that line might get pats on the back on your forum but I don't rate it sorry. Don't ever try to put our team in the same boat as yours.
I don't have an issue in agreeing that both clubs could get more money from home games, but there are worse off teams than ours at Etihad stadium.
If you think that your suddenly gonna get buckets of money at AO after It cost a half a billion dollars and has more organization with their finger in the pie than just the evil SANFL your kidding yourself. And who the hell signs an agreement to move their home ground without actually knowing what the money deal is going to be.
My question is what make Patterson stadium better than AAMI as far as the actual stadium goes an not the mony deal.

Paterson stadium is in subiaco, which is 2-3 Kim's from the CBD.

Analogy would be having footy park in Norwood or unley.

Edit: analogy of Norwood/unley is also reflective os subiaco lifestyle which is full of cares/restaurants/bars and upscale shops.

How far from the CBD will their new stadium be?
Will be at burswood, next to packers casino. There is currently an 18 hole golf course there that will disappear. About 3-4kms from CBD but a little bit awkward to get to as it is over the swan (which is slightly wider than the torrents :) ). They will build foot bridges etc to make it easier to get there.

No real analogy with adelaide I can give, but perhaps a similar distance to hindmarsh stadium, perhaps a tad further.

Patterson is a short walk from the Hay Street Mall.

It is old but has had upgrades over the years

I am not sure how they will go with building the new stadium & the new Royal Perth Hospital at the same time

Patterson is a dog of a stadium. But its location is fine and there is a train stop right next to it.

Facilities at AAMI are better. Everything at Subi is cramped, including the seating. Location is very good, I walked there from the mall tonight and it was only about 25 minutes. One thing I will say is that Subi appears to be far superior when conditions are poor, West Lakes is much less protected

Isn't there a freeway on the east side? coming from Thornley way?

So if it was Ports homeground it still would result in poor crowds and a call to upgrade the WACA and let them relocate there?
I havent heard many people in WA complaining about Subi, yet its not that much differen to AAMI?

The Graham Farmer Freeway is the freeway. Good old Polly. Runs under the city too

Subi is much better located and easier to get too

The issue with Port has always been, and only been, with regards to the stadium deal and now wrt reserves. The Crows have also had the same issues but due to the make up of the board weren't able to put it out there so to speak.

As far as footy in SA being fine and it's only Port that have issues, have a look at the Crows 10 lowest ever crowds:
23063 Adelaide v Sydney 2011
25597 Adelaide v Fitzroy 1992
28261 Adelaide v GWS 2012
29321 Adelaide v Western Bulldogs 2010
29895 Adelaide v St Kilda 2002
30173 Adelaide v North Melbourne 2009
30350 Adelaide v Sydney 2000
31196 Adelaide v Richmond 2010
31273 Adelaide v Fitzroy 1991
31412 Adelaide v West Coast 2011

6 out of the 10 are from 2009 onwards, and during that time you won 47 games and made the finals twice. Poor form is not exactly a reason to justify the low crowd numbers you've had over the last 4 years.

As a side note I am not convinced AO will be the solution for everything. No doubt it will increase crowd numbers and make the outing more enjoyable for some but the main reason WCE and Freo are having financial success has more to do with the stadium deal they have.

EDIT:

...
My question is what make Patterson stadium better than AAMI as far as the actual stadium goes an not the mony deal.
First part of the op was about what if anything, makes Patterson better than AAMI, but not the second part. That was about why have Port bitched and the answer has two parts, because there is/was something to bitch about and unlike the Crows they could.

Tonnes of Freo members are supporters of interstate clubs wanting to see frequent AFL footy. Many are also Eagles fans who either really love footy or are on their own team's waiting list. In the WA footy environment it would be extremely difficult for 'little brother' franchise to the WCE to fail.

Stadium deal is also better from what I've heard, with the crowd's maximum capacity being about ~6000 fewer.
