Does this mean the WAFL won't be on Monday nights on ABC2 in Vic anymore?
It appears so.

So I guess it's going to be Late Night Legends 7 nights a week now?

Yes, but the ABC said that if enough people write official complaints, they may bring the coverage back in future.

If nobody complains, there is no chance of sport (except for Late Night Legends - which is crap anyway) returning to the channel.

Bloody happy I didnt vote for Rudd.

Obviously the ABC's budgets don't allow for anything except prerecorded crap to be shown.

It used to be our ABC, now its just another piece of shit.

Why don't you all get a life?

As i have said in another thread, if there was some benefit to the ABC for showing the sports they would. Obviously it is costing them too much money and they cannot continue with the service.

You truly are a muppet and rugby league deserves you.

Replaying football matches the ABC (ABC1) itself covers (NTFL, WAFL, SANFL, VFL) to ABC2 doesn't cost "too much money" to transfer the replay from one timeslot to another. But logic is not one of your strong points so I doubt you'll get it.

By the way, your continued presence bagging AFL football -- because that is all you do on BF -- entrenches the stereotype well all have of fearful and cornered rugby league follower.

So the more you keep up your anti-AFL football crusade disguised as objectivity the more I move further away from rugby league and its fans.

You dumb ****.

It doesn't cost them anything !

They are simply recycling footage which is already shown locally on ABC.

They don't count on advertising revenue or ratings. But that's their problem. They just have NFI how many people watch it because they are muppets from Sydney like you.

Would an online petition work or do you think we should send in letters?

i have thought about an online petition.

it would be good to the lobby ... BUT

petitions are lazy. they wouldn't take it seriously and may not take any notice at all.

they are only going to listen to letters, because it takes more effort to write letters so they take it seriously. it is the only way that each individual can express the reasons for their own complaints.

They count the number of individual letters they get to determine just how many people are truly pissed off.

What could help is if you write an open letter. Post a copy of your letter on this forum or in a blog - that inspires others to put pen to paper too.

Okay if it doesn't cost them anything (monetary or otherwise) then why aren't they doing it?

Clearly it is costing them something.

it may well be that there are govenrment sponsored programs that they wish to run in the timeslots. It may well be that by replaying them they have to pay moer in rights (multiple broadcasts increase the costs)

Somewhere along the line it is costing them something. Maybe they just can't have it on their conscience braodcasting AFL to the population?

Hitemhardfreo,

I never disguised my anti-AFL agenda. I think it is a soft sport with little to no skilll required. The 2 things you have to do, catch a ball and kick it between the goals happen so infrequently it makes me pnoder the point.

AS for my objectivity around braodcasting, marketing strategies, development, growth and the sports in general that is real. I do tak an interest in what the AFL, ARU FFA, tennis Australia, AJC do. I like to see where sports are learning from each other, warring with each other. Working with each other and trying to push to the next level.

I honestly think that you guys need to get over it. you forget that i too have lost the FTA braoadcast of regional Rugby League on ABC2. you don't see me leading a parade down the street...

If you aren't going to add anything intelligent or even remotely plausible to the debate then there is no point you being here.

{edit}

Everyone else wants their precious NTFL back on ABC2.

I took a contrary point of view.

hence debate.

NO where should you be, cause there is clearly no point in YOU being here.

Taking up a contrary position is all well and good, but you need to back it up with an argument and not just an irrelevant anti-Aussie Rules rant.

I(;ve given reasoning behind it. I've lost count of how many times.

Obviously the ABC does not see it viable to broadcast sport on replay on their 2 channel. Whatever the reason is theres nothing you're going to do about it.

Perhaps you should read posts rather than pop off your rod.

Their official line is that it is costing their brand reputation to be seen as a "reruns" channel .... they are going through a total brand reinvention at the moment.

that's how they see their sports broadcasts. Yet ironical that they continue to pursue "Late Night Legends" which is - exactly that - reruns.

Whether that is reason enough to dump broadcasts that aren't shown anywhere else and that are really not reruns but "delayed" I guess is the moot point.

Regardless of the outcome, I'd say their new marketing manager - who probably thought he/she was being very clever, will end up with some egg on his face over this.

And I guess you won't be missing your QLD Wizard Cup and New South Wales Cup delayed broadcasts ??? This is not an AFL vs Rugby League thread so grow up.

Looks like ABC is going into full multi channeling and will follow the BBC model and have more than one channel with its own identity. So ABC 2 will no longer be a reruns channel and now will have it's own programs. Probably the end of the 11pm time slot for the local sports replays ie WAFL, SANFL, VFL, NSWRU and QRL.

ABC promises more content choice

By Katherine Field,
February 06, 2008 07:02pm

THE ABC has launched its new look program for 2008, promising viewers more choice than ever with two very distinct channels.

From Friday midday the ABC will air two channels ABC1 and its digital channel ABC2 with different content.

Director of television Kim Dalton said the network would cement itself as Australia's leading multi-platform broadcaster this year.

"We are helping to reshape the way people use and interact with television by giving them more programs, more ways to view them and more flexibility around when and how they watch them,'' Mr Dalton told the launch in Sydney.

"We have deliberately chosen an alternative path to other Australian networks - embracing true multi-channelling.

"Increasingly much of this content will be available on demand, online, as downloads, and streamed.

"The look and feel in 2008 is new.''

Mr Dalton announced a new six part drama series called The Cut starring John Wood, a new comedy series written by The Chaser team named Lawrence Leung's Choose Your Own Adventure among the new programs on ABC1.

The network will also air a four hour documentary The Howard Years.

Cementing its position in public affairs will be a new program called Q&A hosted by Lateline's Tony Jones.

"He (Jones) will tackle the big issues,'' Mr Dalton said.

ABC2 will for the first time have completely different content. The network has joined forces with the Australian Film Commission, Opera Australia, and the Australian Ballet to provide a range of live coverage.

It will also air a new half hour program hosted by Walkley Award winning journalist Steve Cannane called Hackfest.

The channel will have a major focus on Australian arts.

"We will not simply be rebroadcasting the same TV,'' Mr Dalton said.

The ABC also announced it will launch an internet TV platform later in the year.

Bit sad. I enjoyed trying to stay up and watch the SANFL game on Tuesday night to see some of Port's kid play for different teams. Would ocassionally catch a quarter or two of a WAFL or VFL game and usually pick a player who you wondered if they could make the big time. Mind you how many people would be up after 11pm wating to watch something new that wasn't a re run.

Who knows, they might make the state comp games available online, which would be better than nothing.

It would still be worth writing in a complaint about the removal of the coverage. The state leagues (both football and rugby) need as much exposure as they possibly can. Even if they moved it to ABC1 at 11pm if it's more in line with the content of ABC1 (that would be a bonus as everyone would have access to that).

Maybe it would be good if the VFL, SANFL & WAFL was on Fox Sports as well. Just wondering, will those 3 leagues be on this year on ABC1 live on a Saturday afternoon in each state?

You think footy(AFL) is a soft sport with no skill, yet you follow rugby??
I like both codes, I dont have an agenda, if only you could understand what a fool you are and how idiotic you sound, if you want an argument so bad, at least make a valid point, not just state the opposite to everyone else, that just makes you sound stupid, and un-informed, you do however, seem half educated, why cant you see this yourself?
Time to pull up mate, take it to the rugby boards, or are you already very much despised there too?
