YupHmmm surprised to see so many still so bitter. Hypothetically if Ablett wanted back i'd welcome him with open arms.
I'll tell you what else is factual mate, its 3/4 time in the 2010 prelim, we were getting thumped by Collingwood partly due to an outdated gameplan as you well know and Thompson, as any coach would do, tries something different and tells ablett to play up forward. Ablett refuses and TALKS BACK to the coach.not the captaincy, but he was disrespected by a petulant coach who happened to be losing the plot, don't need to dredge this mire up again, but that is factual

Do we need to go through all this againLoyalty is overrated. As fans it's understandable people get emotional etc. But put yourself in Abletts shoes. This is his job, his livelihood and his savings for future retirement.
If you you got offered more than double your salary to leave a job you love to work for some heartless plastic corporation would you do it. Of course you bloody would.
Well saidI

Thompson was right about loyalty. Returning to essendon (who he played for for 15 years and had several mates there) is loyalty in my book. And many great coaches of the game are loyal to more than one club (leigh Mathews for example is life member of 3 different clubs). That is very different to wanting to join some made up plastic club on the gold coast. Matthew Scarlett was right last night when he said we would win 5 flags if he hadn't left. He ditched us when we needed him. Cam Mooney was right in the meeting after the round 5 loss to NM on 07 that he is a soon. Opposition fans are right when they say he only joined a crap side GC so he can play for himself, do whatever he wants and collect all the personal awards. If he's such a great captain then GC wouldntt be playing BETTER when he isn't there. He's an A grade player, but not a team player and it would ruin the club culture if we dared wanted him back - we have a no dickheads policy.
I doubt there's anyone who wouldn't like to see Gaz in the hoops again. It's just that some are attempting to re-write history.Hmmm surprised to see so many still so bitter. Hypothetically if Ablett wanted back i'd welcome him with open arms.
He handled his departure poorly, but don't undersell what Bomber did for the club. He was great for us overall as Scarlo said in his interview on our website. We're better off without Bomber and Gary.
I would have preferred Gary to stay, but am very glad that Bomber is long gone.
Doesn't say much about him in that caseBest player I've ever seen, if given the Captaincy would've stayed, the clubs fault!
Bomber and Balme.
Plus it's nonsense.Doesn't say much about him in that case![]()
he was disrespected. FACT.Sorry VD but it's not 'factual'. It's merely your take on it.
My take is that the lucre on offer was just too attractive. Can't blame him for making that choice. Just a great pity he handled his departure so poorly.
As a sidelight, I had a chuckle at his comment last night on the Sam Newman show about the response of Scarlo to a text Gaz sent him on his retirement. Scarlo said that had he not left we'd have won five premierships.

Agree, but he and Lauren are past history, he's going to have to meet Buddy's sister, an elite Netballer, imagine the genetic marvels they could produce for us.be good if Gazza and his Mrs could procreate sometime soon as we are assured the father/son pick![]()

in the papers after the AFLPA night.when did this happen?
Thought he was settling down, amazing.
Use by date may be a prerequisite...I'd imagine the club took a semen sample before his departure so nonetheless, we in good hands![]()
If you have to offer a player the captaincy to make them stay then f*** 'em.Best decision was to not have that spoilt little brat as captain.
How is it Bombers fault ?
Should he have dumped Ling from the captaincy after a year just to keep a spoilt brat at the club ?
You're so antagonistically bias, 'not dump Ling', you bias twat, just needed to know he was, next!!
Bomber used Abletts' tenuous situation to cover his own treacherous actions, and he did a number on blokes like you, who wanted so much the Ablett witch-hunt to roll on!
The little brat as you 'pathetically' label him is not only a VFL captain, but has just won the players MVP Award for the 4th time, amazing in itself.
So much for all the critics saying he needed the Geelong group to make him, bias fools they all turned out to be.
But bias and jealousy are like cancer, once you've got it it's hard to shake.

I just think its a damn waste him playing up there for that plastic franchise..... potentially will shorten his career since he is carrying a huge workload.
I wasn't happy when he left, none of us where.... but for all the name calling and mud getting slung here if he came back and said he wanted to come back to Geelong I would be rapt to see him in the team... and all it would take would be him dominating the 1st quarter back and everyone here would be heaping praise on him and saying how good it was that he was back where he belonged.
The best player in the comp... of course we want him back in the hoops. He could be a bloody dangerous forward pinch hitting in the middle in a couple of years time!
That being said I can't see it happening, Andy D won't want his biggest fish walking out on his new pride and joy.... he will already be less than impressed that a few of the kids want out already
My son who is 6 and was born and bred in Adelaide is a Cats supporter despite everyone else around him including his mother being mad Crows people. He was balling his eyes out last week the the Dockers rolled us. My wife assures me that our 2 year old daughter will be Crows though. We'll see about that...Must be SC, I know if my kids didn't follow the gees they wouldn't look back fondly on their childhood in a few years. I certainly wouldnt be letting them dress in the colours of a toilet bowl, follow clubs that sell games to all parts of the country, idolise Alan Didak, or have to explain that 'no, you dont play in September'. Control yer bloody kids I say..
