Plus it will turn into a completely non-related religion dummy spit circular argument which has absolutely nothing to do with football and is frankly boring as shit.

Correct !!

Besides, I judge him on his footy ability, not which god he prays too.

Maybe others should do the same !!!

If anything, the reaction by some BF posters is indicative of the unhealthy level of reverence we place on sports stars (To the level of religious worship in a lot of cases). To be disappointed that they don't share your exact beliefs is an indictment on you, not them.

Suppose we'll have to agree to disagree then. I really don't see how this small act is as harmful as you suggest.

For what it's worth I am in no way religious, I'm just of the opinion that it's a basic human right to express yourself freely without persecution. What you've just posted goes directly against that. Good luck with that whole negative outlook thing, though.

Yeah, see, if more people were aware of its proven destructive track record globally as a brand of thinking, they wouldn't dismiss it at a micro level so readily.

But we these humans are the same ones who care about a financial instrument in place of actual resource scarcity.

You can't eat and generate electricity with money.

Negative outlook?

It's my opinion. Who are you to say it's a negative one?

Look, no one is going to tell any AFL player they can't pray in the dugout or the changeroom or even while standing on the wing 10 minutes into the last qrt.

I just don't want our game turning into a born again christian circus full of blokes standing in a circle praising the Lord.

But that's just me. I've got just as much right to protest about it without fear of persecution..haven't I?

IS GARY Ablett the AFL's Tim Tebow?

I really don't know about anyone else but ideally I would rather a football keep their religious views to themselves. I mean given who his father is it is not surprising Ablett Jnr is also really religious but I would personally rather not know. This might seem hypocritical of me given that Brett Kirk was the Swans captain for years but what does everyone else think of the issue? Should footballers keep their religious and even political opinions to themselves?
His new bird is a Christian

The fact that we let something like a relatively personal belief, which the footballer is hardly trying to mass expose, leads to comments like 'genuinely disappointed'.

As if people deserved to have an actual opinion about him in the first place is beyond the point, using it as a reason to dislike him is just weird. Almost as weird as how Americans treat the reversed situation (Where to be ungracious religiously is an affront seemingly at times).

I see this as a good point but it's not just reflective of Australians. Online communities the world over have a similar standpoint.

I think none the less of Ablett because of this than I did before. I don't think any better. I don't see what this has got to do with anybody. And remember just about all clubs would have this within their playing group.

What the hell are you talking about man?

I find it pretty selfish to pray for a good game (if that's what they are doing) when there is a hell of a lot of more important things that God could be taking care of. I guess he's too busy helping Ablett be a champ to help the millions of starving people.

Everyone remember GF Shaun Hart on his knees after the siren in the born again 'praise the lord' arms routine?

What about those idiot Brazilian world cup players with their Jesus t-shirts?

#### that. Keep your Jesus crap at home and don't bring it to the playing field or the bloody changrooms for that matter.

I mean FFS, does praying before, during and after a game help anything? What's wrong with doing it at home before you leave for the ground?

Tebow looked ridiculous praying on the sidelines. Plenty of NFL Jesus freaks playing the game who don't feel the need to break out in prayer during a football game.

Attention seeking bullshit it is.

I don't think the Shaun Hart comparision is a great one. Hart had just won a flag, an event which brings people to tears and is the zenith of a players career. Although it may be in front of hundreds of thousands, it's a deeply personal moment, that players want to share with those closest to them (which may be a greater being).

Here, Gazz has posted a picture and a verse from the "good book" on twitter.....

I think you flogs need to get over it. FFS if Ablett wants to believe in the Lord than he has the right. Houli gets to talk on TV about his beliefs ffs and he is praised for it, double standards? If it's a pre-game routine that gets him in the right mood, much like the shitty electronic house music, than obviously it's working. Hall and Smith are/were having career best seasons. I'm not affiliated with any religion at all, but even i'm astonished at how soft this nation is becoming with views on 'western' religion beliefs being almost taboo, while immigrants are allowed to preach their beliefs and we turn a blind eye. Double standards?

Each to their own. Those of you calling for it to stay in the personal, you're quite happy with espousing your outrage at seeing religion.

For goodness sake, it's a photograph on a Twitter page.

Here we go.

This is not the place for generalistic religious debate. We have SRP (Society, Religion and Politics) for that. You're welcome to have a general debate on the existence of God/Allah/Buddha/*insert deity here* there, but the main board is for football related topics.

Tread carefully folks.

Sense of perspective, please! This is Big Footy after all, where many people have no sense of perspective.

Exactly. Clearly God has not looked at the state of Melbourne's list recently as they need his help much more than Ablett does. God should definitely get into the ear of the Melbourne recruiting manager and tell him who is likely to be a really good future player. This is assuming God is a massive AFL fan which is a fairly safe assumption (Ablett seems to believe it anyway).

...and there lies the problem with religion. Too concerned about themselves rather than others

He's posted a picture of himself praying before a game. I'm not really sure how you get from there to AFL becoming a religious celebration or something as you suggest?

And yeah, you're free to think whatever you want. Just remember there's a difference between saying something like "I'm not religious. I don't believe in a God," and "Oh, you believe in God? How embarrassing. Keep that to yourself, please. You're wrong for believing in that and should keep it to yourself for the good of society."

Well it would be a totally different story if a few blokes started having satanic masses around a ####ing pentagram before a game wouldn't it?
