I really don't know about anyone else but ideally I would rather a football keep their religious views to themselves. I mean given who his father is it is not surprising Ablett Jnr is also really religious but I would personally rather not know. This might seem hypocritical of me given that Brett Kirk was the Swans captain for years but what does everyone else think of the issue? Should footballers keep their religious and even political opinions to themselves?

Article goes on to say

"Ablett went on to have 31 disposals as the Suns posted their fourth win of the season. Bennell also starred but Smith was subbed out with a knee injury."

Bennell? Idiots!

Bachar Houli is praised for embracing his religion publicly and is known to prey before match day, albeit to a different god. I'm glad they're not on the same team.
I'd be willing to overlook it to have Gaz on the team. Or trade Bach for Gaz. Happy either way.

So what if he believes in God, why do people have a problem with that?
You know, because God doesn't really exist and they are really angry at him for it.

Relax my children, he was only praying to moi :p

PS. I had nothing to do with Zac, that was either Satan or an evolutionary failure....it will not be a problem in 4000000000 years when footballers evolve without ACLs... You know survival of the fittest and all.

At least we'll never get into this much detail into the life of Gazza....thank God.

In 1985, the family moved to the Philippines where they served as Baptist missionaries and built a ministry.[8] Prior to becoming pregnant with Tim, his mother contracted amoebic dysentery and fell into a coma. She discovered she was pregnant while recovering. Because of the medications used to treat her, the fetus experienced a severe placental abruption.[8] Doctors expected a stillbirth and recommended an abortion however, the Tebows decided against it citing their strong faith and on August 14, 1987, she gave birth to Tim in Manila.[8]

A massive pox on America for getting behind this stupid word (Tebowing) and all the ******* posers in the world for turning it into a meme. And f*** ESPN for the endless coverage on this "fullback".

In other news, not bothered with Ablett's pre-game ritual. It's just a pic and Gaz has never wasted a spot on a roster.

Skip has a lot to answer for in this dept.

Here we go.

This is not the place for generalistic religious debate. We have SRP (Society, Religion and Politics) for that. You're welcome to have a general debate on the existence of God/Allah/Buddha/*insert deity here* there, but the main board is for football related topics.

Tread carefully folks.
True but it's much more interesting debate here using a footy context. That board is full of atheistic, commie, leftist, ****tas who gang up on anyone who opposes their views.

Bayless is a f***ing troll. Listen to First Take for the lols if people want to but I have better things to do with my time.

I stopped watching FT in the middle of last season.

As a Jets fan, for awhile I almost believed in the Tebow mania he whipped up.

Then one one day I saw the light and realised I was being conned by a deluded idiot.

And then I put my Sanchez poster back up on the wall...:(

It's been a long time since I've seen that word on BF.

Nothing wrong with it. I wouldn't enjoy seeing a lot of it in the game, like is seen in America, but it's very minimal here. The only time Christianity really affects the AFL is with Good Friday football which is a minor issue that's forgotten the week after.

Shaun Hart's Norm Smith acceptance was more cringe but that's nothing compared with what they have in the US or in European football with players crossing their hearts and looking to the skies before coming on/off the ground.

Gary strikes me as a very nice and conscientious you man who doesn't want to shove his faith in the faces of others, so why should we criticise him for having it?

Exactly. Clearly God has not looked at the state of Melbourne's list recently as they need his help much more than Ablett does. God should definitely get into the ear of the Melbourne recruiting manager and tell him who is likely to be a really good future player. This is assuming God is a massive AFL fan which is a fairly safe assumption (Ablett seems to believe it anyway).
Maybe Melbourne have been praying to the wrong Vlad... Er I mean god.

I don't follow American sports much and until now thought Tebowing was just the American version of tea-bagging

Most importantly, it presents an otherwise good, level person with an irrational set of baseline existential assumptions that form very outer boundaries of the consciousness. Meaning, a religious person is indistinguishable in the rationalism of their thinking from another person - until you question them on something that intersects with a religious assumption. They'll make a statement like "god is loving", but they will not think critically about god as a valid/invalid concept. They will think critically about the nature of god, and/or why he/she/it operates this way or that. But the assumption is that god exists.
Such a pity you chose not to address the question in any depth. ;) Wow, and wow again. :thumbsu:

Yes there ####ing well is a lot wrong with it.

It's selfish. It's making your team mates feel uncomfortable (even thought they would never admit it) and again...what's wrong with saying a prayer at home before you leave?

Is there some benefit doing it just before the game starts?

Does that make it more...effective praying?

Attention seeking rubbish. Run out, play the game and then run down to the closest Hill Song church and belt out a few tunes all you like.

But don't bring to the ground with all the TV cameras on you.

Turn it ####ing up ffs!!!
Sounds like reverse psychology...go on come out, you know you want to, it's generally those that are most offend that are trying to cover something.
