Abortion

Wouldnt it be better to set about fixing many of the social pressures that make a woman feel that abortion is neccessary? All this agonising over if its wrong or right is absurd when really the question should never have to be asked.

You sound like a religious nutcase.

That definition is problematic though. Are we talking with, or without technological assistance? There are many premature babies that would meet the mind criteria that would not survive without intensive medical care so you'd have to say it includes that assistance.

Then as technology improves the time at which we can successfully keep a foetus alive outside of the womb gets pushed back.

Eventually if we get to the point where we can completely gestate a human via technological means, what then? If someone goes through fertility treatment to have a child but has extra embryos frozen are they legally obligated to gestate them in an artificial womb?

Yes.

Conversely though,

We have no need to invest in science that can keep the fertalised egg alive outside the mother's womb.

It shouldn't come into it. This science has nothing to do with medicine, nor humanity. It's simply Dr jekyle Mr Hyde sought of stuff.

Millions go without food housing basic medicine all our essential services below basic funding needs.

I wouldn't value the intelligence of anyone who thinks such a sceince should be investigated

That's all well and good unless you want to replace them with social pressures that make a woman feel that an abortion is immoral.

"Abortion should be safe, legal, and rare". I have no problem with this.

I don't have a moral objection to abortion but I'd be all for better sexual education and access to contraception to lower the amount of unwanted pregnancies both aborted, and carried to term.

I can't stand it when people are anti-abortion, but horrified at the thought of allowing a 14 year old girl on birth control.
Rule #1 - Teenagers will ****. If you think you can convince them as a group not to, you're dreaming.
Rule #2 - Teenagers will make dumb decisions.

If you think your little angel wouldn't do something like that, you're fooling yourself. Talk to her about the pill, talk to him about condoms, give them access to them!

Then your understanding of how science works and how many technologies have huge benefits way beyond their initial scope is severely lacking...

My understanding of science is way above anyone's level who would dare question my understanding.

Abortion is killing but not everything in life is black and white.

We make actions and fail to make actions the results in the killing of humans every day. Be it in the health system, welfare system, judicial, military or other.

So it’s not wrong to call abortion killing but just because it is, doesn’t mean abortion is wrong.

Personally I support abortion and mercy killings. I also support peoples rights to suicide.

I am both pro choice and morally opposed to abortion in certain circumstances.

Why should it be taboo to tell people that abortion is immoral? Its quite plainly wrong, no matter how much we muddy the water. Anyway, I was more alluding to reducing financial constraints on young families, raising overall standards of living for everyone etc. Placing an emphasis on personal responsibility is a better preventative than handing out condoms and saying go for your life. Demand for abortions is a symptom of much broader cultural and moral decay.

I'm not convinced an infant would pass a sentience/consciousness test for a significant amount of time post birth.
So that arbitrary conclusion gives adults the right to end the childs life? Why even bother being humane about it if that were the case? Euthanasia pill/sharp blow to the soft skull cap, same same.

I'm questioning the reasoning behind using it because a baby is no more consciously aware of itself and surroundings between 6 weeks and when it's born.

Except it isn't, at all...

Which is exactly why places that teach abstinence over contraception have such low teen pregnancy rates.

Wait no, high. High teen pregnancy rates. It's as if teenage kids are biologically programmed to **** and trying to convince them not to doesn't work!

What period in the past was more moral? Was it the time when you could legally own another actual person? Perhaps when Europeans went colonising and murdering across the globe?

And you know otherwise how?
I'm not making a ridiculous claim that "No one ever tries and (sic) utilise this option" with no basis whatsoever.

As above, of course people use it. It wouldn't be available if nobody used it, for starters. Secondly, anecdotally I know people that have used it.

So can you answer the question?
