I would love to see Madden get some games early in the year. His pace is exceptional and although somewhat unorthodox his kicking usually is pretty damaging as well. He could really be a weapon as the running defender Fagan has said he wanted.

AFL club NEAFL lists have been announced today with academy players dominating selections for the 2020 season.

As per new NEAFL list rules confirmed in November, AFL clubs are permitted to list up to seven players, including up to two mature-age players.

At this stage, Brisbane, Sydney, Gold Coast and the GIANTS have opted to select academy players only.

Aspley junior Tozer will be one to watch in 2020 after an injury-riddled 2019 campaign. Yet to make his NEAFL debut, Tozer is a highly talented prospect who is set to make an impact this year as a key forward.

Wischnat is a unit. Remember he had a couple of decent games last year at U18 level. Not overly tall but plays tall and has the aggression that someone like Ballenden could do well to watch. Interesting to see if he continues to develop.

Do any of the insiders here know when the father son kids come up and train with the club?

Keen to follow Will Ashcroft over the next three years.

Captained Vic Metro at U15 level, and is currently a highly regarded mid, playing for Sandringham U16’s this year.

We should prepare ourselves for the likelihood that he will choose the Suns over the Lions.

Academy Update - June 1st:

We hope all of our Academy boys & girls are doing well with the recent return to attending school on campus, and also have been keeping up with the training programs that have been provided over these past few months.

Thank you to all for your continued support and commitment to our program and for your understanding in what has been a challenging few months for all. With changes in the last 24 hours announce by the QLD state government, local non-contact club training may be able to commence under strict protocols very soon which is exciting for everyone!

Our Academy program at this point in time remains suspended indefinitely with our staff on stand down as we continue to work with the AFL through financial, human and resources impact of the Covid-19 pandemic in the wider football industry.

As such, the first two weeks of the next home training program which will be emailed out in the next 24 hours have followed a similar structure to the previous 10 weeks of programs.

In the subsequent weeks all players/parents are advised that if you do commence club training after June 12, the conditioning component of this program should be used as a supplement to what is being completed at club training and that you do not have to complete it.

If you aren't getting regular conditioning (ie.specific running component for 15-20min) at training then please use the conditioning component, but please do not do both club training/conditioning & feel you must complete the conditioning/endurance component of this program as well.

It is advised that you continue to complete the speed component of this program as part of a warm up or pre-training if club commences, to continue to further your development in terms of speed & agility training.

In addition to this it is imperative you continue to complete the strength programs provided as there is strong evidence from both within the AFL and across elite sport, to support the role strength training plays in injury prevention and performance improvement.

We have included the bike programs again for any athletes who need to modify the running component of the program due to injury or growing pains.

If you have any questions or are unsure on the contents of the program please reach out to our staff. Train well, stay safe we hope to see people enjoying community football again in the near future.

Cheers.

Two father son prospects to watch for.

Noah Bradshaw (2021) made the Murray Bushrangers squad as a bottom ager.

Will Ashcroft (2022) captained the Victorian U15 boys, and made the AA U15 team
Will Ashcroft will be one to really keep an eye on. Aerobically he is quite gifted isn’t he? Bloody well not do a Marc Murphy either!

You beauty... we're back in action!!!
Starting tonight with our U18 Boys squad training at Coorparoo we will progressively look to re-start Academy training across our age groups / regional training centres in the coming weeks.
As details for each squad are confirmed we will update via email directly to players & parents and also post info here on our Academy FB page.
Please note our Academy staff are only working approx. 1 day per week at the moment so we will endeavour to respond to any emails & phone calls as soon as practical. Also note the regional AFLQ talent staff that were assisting with our U12-16 squads pre-shutdown are still on stand down a t present so any Academy queries can be directed to myself.
We thank everyone for your patience over the past few months, hopefully the boys & girls enjoyed completed & have benefited from the home training programs and are now ready for club games to kick off this weekend across South East Queensland.
Regards,
Luke Curran

Updates on how some of our Academy players are tracking so far in this season since it commenced. These are just top-agers and over-agers.

Disclaimer: I haven't got to any of the games so far so these are really only based on stats from the QAFL website. Some of these players I konw nothing about. If you've caught any games, feel free to chip in.

Saxon Crozier (Morningside): Played QAFL seniors first two weeks. Named BOG in the Panthers Round 2 win over Wilston Grange.
Blake Coleman (Morningside): Played QAFL seniors first two weeks. Kicked 3 goals in 2 games.
Tahj Abberley (Wilston Grange): Played QAFL seniors first two weeks.
Carter Michael (Maroochydore): Played QAFL Round 1 (Maroochydore had the bye R2).
Jack Briskey (Sherwood): Player Colts Round 1, Reserves Round 2
Bruce Reville (Sherwood): Played seniors Round 1.

No indication of Tozer or Wischnat around the traps, although it sounds like Wischnat might with Morningside, but not playing.

QAFL 'Match of the round will be live screened from this week.

AFL Queensland have today announced that a “Match of the Round” in both the QAFL and the Bond University QAFLW competitions will now be live streamed for the remainder of the 2020 season.

The promotion of a “Match of the Round” will showcase the plethora of talent in our two State League competitions, and provide a platform for our talented players that are vying for draft consideration in 2021 to be seen by AFL and AFLW scouts.

AFL Queensland State Manager – Senior Football, Barry Gibson, said that the opportunity to showcase our elite community football competitions was an added bonus to the revised 2020 seasons. “After making the tough decision to not live stream any games this year due to budgetary constraints, we have been fortunate enough to be in a position to reallocate some funds to cover the streaming costs for the remainder of both the QAFL and Bond University QAFLW seasons”, Gibson said.

“With over 85 players that would otherwise have been playing in the NEAFL competition, and over 50 players that have played in the AFLW competition earlier this year, the quality of both premier men’s and women’s competitions will be exceptional.” Gibson added.
