Ackland at 33

I want to know who put the wind up them to draft him that early. Gotta wonder why they didn't just trade for him in the first place...#33 would've got them Ackland and #51, no doubt.

We had the next 2 picks, so I don't think that was it. Maybe Adelaide at #40.

Even though they already had Meeson and Gibson at that stage? Nah, I don't buy that.

They took Maric at 40. Essendon had a pick at 46 - they were also supposed to be interested.

Well if we were to pick Ackland before Maric, I'm happy the Saints chimed in.

I'm surprised Cain went so early, let alone before De Luca.

Stupid selection IMO.

They could have had Maric or Deluca, who are both better prospects.

Maybe it had something to do with Thomas not being at the draft. Maybe they had set their mind on taking him in that round and didnt even consider the possibility of those two younger better prospects still being there, or maybe theyre just plain stupid. Either way they lost and we both gained on that one IMO.

I think its more to do with they would have wanted an established ruckman for right now instead of wanting to wait 2-3 years developing one. That the only thing I can think of and Ackland was the best mature ruckman available at that stage.

Think who is their ruck coach, he always had big wraps on Cain. Still i reckon they could have waited another round or two before picking him.
