Yep.. parker would just stunt the growth of our young mids… its bad enough now with sloane, laird and keays stealing 80% of the CB time.. add mcrouch back in there and parker aswell and the likes of pedlar, berry, shoenberg, our picks this year will have no chance..

Look at some premiership ruckmen...and you get your answer. Aaron Keating, Jamie Charman, Mark Blake, Brent Renouf, Tom Campbell, Shaun Grigg...etc etc.


Find me a spud midfielder amongst those cats/hawks/tigers sides.

It's disrespectful to call them 'spuds', but lesser lights from premieship midfields include Clinton Young, Xavier Ellis, Shannon Byrnes, Shane Savage, John Simpkin, Taylor Duryea.

You're always going to find role players, and that's what they were.

if that happened, unless we have more than 1 midfielder injury, there will be no minutes for anyone under 26 that's not Ben Keays. Matt staying is problematic enough, add Parker into the mix and it's a disaster for our future midfield development.

That said, there is some hope. There are reasons that junior mids didn't get more of a go. Hately was carrying his groin, Pedlar hampered preseason off no footy in 2020 plus injuries, ROC average, Berry deployed mostly to pressure forward role and Schoey seemed to have managed minutes. Disappointing that Ned didn't get a squirt in there but perhaps they preferred him building in his existing role. Maybe full preseasons into these guys will see the triumvirate deployed to other roles and the midfield load shared amon more than 3 full timers and 1 casual.

We maybe agree. I think ROB is absolutely the equal of ruckmen who have won premierships - and I'm not sure I really rate ROB ...

Secret is to not overpay for one, they have just to compete and be aggressive. Collingwoods worst mistake way Grundy’s contract, that will kill them for years

Theres no reason to go for parker with or without these guys. The 2 year deal for Crouch is giving him the hint, we want to play youth in the midfield.

Other posters are absolutely right - recruit Parker and you can ensure youth are not exposed and tested.

Trade in young (ideally Stephens this year and Rankine/Lukosius next year and hopefully Zac Bailey

Invest heavily into development and exposure so we’ve got quality players across the ground all hiting 50-100 games at the same time.

Then….keep recruiting and playing youth into the team so we don’t have to go through a rebuild again.
