Luke Parker 29 in October. Let’s give a 5 year deal to a 29 year old crash and bash inside midfielder, what could go wrong? Sorry Luke!

Interesting comments, on one hand he says he wants Crouch. Then he says we need speed in the midfield to help Laird, Keays and Sloane, no mention of Crouch and Crouch is clearly not going to add speed to an already one paced midfield.

Lets say he stays, how would our midfield of Laird, Keays, Sloane and Crouch work? It’s a horribly unbalanced midfield, especially given Nicks comments. Not only that it will stifle the development of Shoenberg, Pedlar, Berry and whoever we draft.

Having a great ruck is kinda like having an extra great midfielder. If your midfield runs super deep and is well balanced (like a lot of premiership teams from years gone by), a top tier ruck isn’t necessarily needed, as the midfield will do most of the work for itself. That said, a top tier ruck still has worth, especially around the ground and IF your midfield talent is lacking. If you have a top tier ruck as well as a great midfield, the ruck is icing on the cake

For instance, the 07-11 Cats had Ablett/Bartel/Selwood/Kelly etc, so they could get by with Mark Blake and a washed Steven King. The ‘13 Hawks could get by with Max Bailey because they had freaking Mitchell/Hodge/Lewis, and still ran deep beyond that. Gawn pre-2018 and Grundy right now have barely anything to work with in the midfield, hence why their teams weren’t/aren’t that good

Except he also pointed to the fact that players like Schoenberg, McHenry, Pedlar, Berry etc were developing nicely so obviously they'll be given opportunities in the midfield rotations when their form warrants it.

Sandilands, 2018 Grundy and NicNat played with some pretty good midfields.

If you don't have a good midfield group you don't win flags.

I wouldn’t get too carried away with comments from the club itself, Leon Cameron also expected Zac Williams and Jezza to be at the Giants in 2021
He's got a contract in front of him and I've heard nothing this end that he wants home desperately.

Why wouldn't we be targeting good older players in the trade period ??
Because we are in a rebuild not contending.

If we targeted Parker at age 28, yes we may win some more games this year, but we slow the development of Schoenberg, McHenry, Pedlar, Berry, etc.

You top of with players like Parker when we are back in contention.

I agree with the second statement, but the first statement seems kinda irrelevant

And I mean, NicNat would have a premiership if he didn’t injure himself...

Parker is one month away from 29, 29 1/2 by the start of footy 2022....Pass

You think we are going to change our philosophy and include Crouch in the fab 4 and then also give the kids more midfield minutes as well? You’re optimistic

And your pessimistic, the least performing will make was as they should.

Or - what if Matt Stays - we have Crouch and Parker to give good midfield time to and the rebuild stutters
Parker and Crouch in our midfield changes the rebuild but it needn't "stutter". Adding two previous AA is an improvement straight away. The improvement in our midfield should come from increased rotation not just waiting for a youngster to break into the "inner brethren" of mids we play.
Improve the personnel. Rotate more kids through. Improve the midfield group. No stutter...

Yeah, I’d do some currencies for Brayden Maynard. He’s an exemplary performer.

Parker is interesting

Age is wrong for us but our senior players have struggled with their own performance and leadership. There is a void there.

He's an actual senior player, not just a player who has played lots of games.

Perhaps finally learning the lessons about how to communicate these things in the public domain.

And who could forget the total domination of Dean Cox over Stephen Doyle in WCE's 2006 Premiership/Grand Final assault.

Edit : West Coast lose that game without Big Cox's total annihilation of Stephen Doyle.
That is a decade and a half ago.

And he dominated because of how he impacted as a midfielder.

Says more about Clarke than it does ROB I think
Compare ROB to the great Shaun Rehn and the stats comparison looks much the same and in ROB’s favour. However, two points: the game is now much more congested with more ball ups favouring many more hit outs. Rehn and Clarke genuinely shared the rucking duties with another ruckman whereas ROB largely goes it alone.

Clarke was an elite tap ruckman to advantage and would have very high direct score involvements, however that was about all he did.

Where ROB is as weak as pee is as a midfielder. He just doesn’t have the disposal skills but foot and particularly hand to be a linking player in a chain of rapid ball movement.

Don’t get this argument, it makes no assessment about the quality of the rest of the team
"you need a great ruck to win a premiership"

And yet the best rucks have won f*** all, and premiership sides have included absolutely forgettable rucks.

I would have thought the argument is clear.
