well we would want to be quick and considering the Dawson trade might take the entire trade period that is out of our handsI still think we can, and should be aiming to, end up with 2x Top 20 picks in this draft.
Realistically, the Dawson trade will almost definitely involve pick 23. What I haven’t seen floated anywhere enough though is that we can still get another 2021 pick back from the Swans in this deal.
They just picked up Pick 39 as compo for Hewett.
We give: Pick 23 and 2022 2nd Round
We receive: Dawson and Pick 39
(I know some feel giving up that 2022 2nd rounder is unnecessary but hear me out)
We then have Dawson, plus Picks 4, 37, 39, 44.
We then immediately get on the front foot to the Bulldogs and offer up 37, 39 and 44 for their 17. They hopefully gain more points from this (260 odd) than from any other offer they receive. We get an invaluable second top 20 pick (it ends up being pick 19 after Darcy and Daicos bids).
We then have picks 4 (in reality, pick 6), 17 (19) plus 60 odd going into the draft.
We then select one of Callaghan, Erasmus, Goater or Hobbs at Pick 6 (at least 2 of them will be available), and one of Rachele, Draper, Roberts, Wanganeen-Milera, Chesser, Johnson, Fahey, Sinn, Long or van Rooyen at 19 (at least 3-4 of them will be available).
Can then take a punt on a high upside type towards the end of the draft.
If the Dogs don’t want to deal with us, we could instead go back to the Tigers and look at sending them 4 for 7 and 15. As long as we aren’t throwing away Callaghan (ie we have determined Callaghan is going to be off the board by Pick 6), I’m absolutely fine with that.

Richmond and the Western Bulldogs are exploring a trade that would see the Tigers land Pick 17 in exchange for later selections to help facilitate father-son prospect Sam Darcy’s move to Whitten Oval, reports 7 News’ Tom Browne.
It comes as Richmond received an end of second-round compensation pick (No. 38) for free agent Mabior Chol signing with Gold Coast Suns.
The Tigers are now armed with a strong hand ahead of the November National Draft, holding Picks 7, 15, 26, 28, 38, 40 and 44.
And with Darcy expected to receive a bid with one of the early selections, the Dogs need to add draft points, currently only holding Picks 17 and 72.
“The Tigers have five picks now in the second and third rounds. Richmond can in effect group those up for Pick 17,” Browne said.
“The Dogs can then use those draft points for their star father-son prospect. That’s what they’re working on behind the scenes.”
