Groin injury. Get him fit and he will be the big body mid we need. Then some speed in the midfield and forward, and we are on the up.

I'm convinced that we're yet to see the best of the lad, and he can play.

Let's see. But I reckon that Hately will surprise a lot of people if he gets himself right.

What I don't get is him playing through injury this year.

I don't think his issues are with hard work. There's nothing to even suggest that the guy doesn't put in and do whatever he needs to. Or that his issues are in his head. Like a lot of blokes, the issues are in or around the groin area :p .

I absolutely have not written him off like many others seem to have. I actually have him as my biggest improver of 2022.

Agree however that 2021 was not a good one for him.
We have a poor history of getting groin injuries right

"Jackson Hately will not play again this season due to groin soreness which has needed to be managed throughout the year."

I hope he can get clear of injury this preseason and have a big year next year. e met him briefly at Unley oval after the crows blues game and he took the time to come back out from the tunnel to sign my lads footy and speak with him when all his team mates had gone to the rooms. So from me, I hope he can put injury behind him and under Burgess become one of our mainstays in the midfield going forward

Not work rate, I think ‘intensity’ is the word I’d use. At times he seems to glide through games, and doesn’t play with enough aggression. I’d love to see him build confidence in his 6’3 frame and throw it around a bit more in 2022.

This is us we’re talking about though. And we know we’re more than happy to have players continue to play injured. When did Pedlar’s shoulder become bad enough that it required surgery?
Pedlar originally did his shoulder playing school footy before he even came to us hence his limited pre-season.
Off the top of my head he's had some pretty ordinary shoulder, knee and ankle injuries during his junior footy even before he got to us, probably due to his kamikaze attack on the contest.
BIO:

A strongly built midfielder/forward, Pedlar is an exceptionally tough, hard-working contested ball winner who can also burst from a stoppage.

The South Australian overcame a shoulder reconstruction last year to play some influential games in 2020 both at Glenelg at under 18s level and with Prince Alfred College where he is the captain.

In the opening game of the SANFL U18 season, Pedlar collected 28 disposals, 15 contested possessions, six tackles, six inside 50s and a goal against eventual premiers Norwood.

Across four games for the Bays, he averaged 21.8 disposals per game and demonstrated his ability to impact the scoreboard, kicking six goals while playing predominantly as a midfielder.

colour me sceptical about a round 22 statement.

I must be only the only one watches all of Nicks’ press interviews. He mentioned it more than once throughout the season, said it was limiting Jackson’s ability to burst from stoppage. The only mystery is why we didn’t rest him sooner.

That's not really a mystery.

Trouble is I'm not sure Jackson has ever been a "burst" type player. The same limitations on display this year are the same limitations that were seen in his draft year.

He lacks the high level intensity of a genuine A-Grade AFL level inside midfielder and whilst he can find the footy, he's a bit of a Brad Symes on the outside in that he lacks penetration/accuracy with his kicking, along with lacking line breaking pace. He simply doesn't use his strong physical attributes to his advantage.

His groin injury probably made the weaknesses to his game worse, but the trouble is, does he have the strengths/weapons to be a genuine AFL level midfielder, or is he more a depth type.

I'm not necessarily writing him off, sometime players can turn it around and find intensity where it was previously lacking. He's certainly a great size for an inside mid and seems a good lad with strong leadership qualities. He has a lot of work to do though if he wants to forge an AFL career.

Unfortunately typical of thr club. Hopefully changes under Burgess.

Talia looks to have cooked his career by playing injured in 2020 when we had nothing to play for.

We insisted on playing Lynch injured until he became properly injured & even then used him a a sub

We ruined the best of Brouch.
