Nicks said they’d not look at it until end of the year. Initially Tex came out saying he wants a new contract done soon. Nicks then said it will be discussed end of year, Tex then followed suit while reiterating he felt great and wanted to go on again. Interesting that CEO now reckons looking at him, Lynch and Talia mid season. So in only a couple of weeks.

End of year is when it should be done, if Tex’s form from last 2 weeks continues he shouldn’t be getting an extension. Lynch definitely not, Talia I’d give 2 years knowing it might be 1 too many.

The whole Keath and Greenwood trades showed we never had a rebuild in mind coming into 2020. If we were serious on a rebuild we would have moved Crouch on as he had trade capital.

I tend to agree. While we can see that our midfield is getting beaten up now and he would be helpful, that doesn't help the long term.

If he were to leave as a free agent or in a trade, where we are able to bundle a 2nd round pick with him for a top 20 pick, then I'd definitely be keen.

No individual player determines the success of a rebuild. Keeping or letting go certain a player is never the pivot on which premierships balance.

No problem with either leaving for the right $ and years, neither are going to be sliding doors moments imo ... they just aren't the age profile that will be essential players when we are next competing for a flag.

the treatment of a single player can have a significant effect on culture, messaging and buy in from stakeholders inside and out.

for example how do you sell a rebuild to players, agents, supporters and sponsors when you dart from one thing to another.

authenticity and consistency are very closely related.

look at when Roo slagged off Greenwood, that has a lot more impact that just talking about a single player

normally a club announces ahead of time it’s rebuilding, we as a club tried to backdate it to get a Mullighan on some peculiar and inconsistent decision making

in fact at one point we tried to argue we were already rebuilding when we traded for Gibbs.

If they'd pushed him out the door they don't have any of their 3 recent premierships.

Quite likely and it does sound ominous. You certainly wouldn’t be making final calls and announcing intentions to delist senior half way through the year. Plus there’s no way Nicks will want to be less experienced next year, especially now we’re struggling a fair bit.

we did the pick swap with Carlton in 2018, BECAUSE we weren’t rebuilding and expected our pick to be much lowe than it turned out to be

I’ve always thought that he was saying that we’re half way through the four drafts required of a rebuild not that we were knowingly rebuilding when we went to those drafts.

If you take a normal amount of picks into a draft then nearly every side is rebuilding.
