sh*t.. we got a lot more for an uncontracted lever than that..

Dawson for just pick 23 would be highway robbery..
Times are changing. Player losing clubs are getting less and less. Treloar was for 14 last year plus other pick swaps. Dawson is probably valued at 16-20plus other pick swaps based on that, although the values should decrease again this year. Don't hate the players, hate the game. Until the AFL do something to stop the losing club from losing big time, expect the trend to continue.

If Sydney want 4 involved, I suspect that's where stephens comes in, we'll want him and more, maybe stephens and 12 back as well.

The Treloar situation is very different and not one you can use to standardise future trades on.

That's a big risk to take on a guy who is truly elite at the most important and underrated aspect of the game - hitting targets. Not sure it would be wise to be pooncing around whilst you have a competitor who are a far more attractive proposition from a talent POV.

Anyway, I'm sure the bean counters will sort it out.
Potential to be elite, look at the Dawson trade thread created in May when there were whisper of him leaving. Most said around $450K which would equate to a late 3rd rounder and then his form was excellent in the second half, hence only potential.

Chris Davies from Port quoted by the AFL as saying they are extremely interested in landing Dawson. We are in for a fight here, particularly as it's doubtful we will play finals for the next two seasons, even with Dawson.

As for doing the trade, pick 23 (25+) and next years second is about right, Dawson is prime age and a gun already with more upside. Any talk of PSD is just pissing into the wind BF nonsense, Port will offer pick 16 (18) without a second thought and if it's 50/50 as to which club he selects, talk of selling out Swans cheap may sway him.

Interview with outgoing Gold Coast Football Manager Jon Haines re Izak Rankine. 3.20 mark.

Sounds like his preparation is not up to scratch.

Could be another Troy Menzel. Immense talent, little application.

PORT Adelaide has extreme interest in securing the signature of wantaway Sydney winger Jordan Dawson as the Power through the wreckage of their preliminary final "abomination", football manager Chris Davies says.

Dawson has told the Swans he wants out and requested a trade to his native South Australia, with both the Power and Adelaide preparing their pitches.

Davies says Port is waiting for Dawson to nominate which SA club is his preferred destination.

"He's certainly a player that we have got extreme interest in ... (but) we haven't entered into any sort of meaningful discussions," Davies told reporters on Wednesday.

Interesting that Davies has said that Port have extreme interest but yet haven't had any meaningful discussions with Dawsons

They are waiting for Dawsons to nominate his preferred club

Correct me if I'm wrong

Wouldn't a player want to have meaningful discussions before nominating his preferred club?

Or Davies is full of shit to throw a smoke screen

I dont really want to use 4 either but they way the draft is shaping up… picks 4 through to about 15 are all looking very good..
Who do we target with pick 4? I'm worried about a go home Victorian mid, if we don't rise up the ladder quickly. If we could split pick 4 into something we can use on a local plus something that smoothly gets the deal done for Dawson

Dawson is in quarantine for another week. Have we had meaningful discussions with him either? Trade period is weeks away

What do you make of that?
Sounds like off field issues when a football manager starts talking preparation, personally his on field demeanor looked very much like he's not playing team first football, whether preparation feeds into that I don't know?

Davis holds his cards very close to his chest, a 'meaningful conversation' is likely one where the outcome has been determined.

We can't lowball Sydney if Dawson is that good.

I'd consider:
  • Adl R1 2021 and Adl R2 2022 for Syd R1 2021 and Syd R3 2022 - I can't see the straight swop this year being enough.

You do realise nearly all AFL footballers have managers that do most of that...

I can't see Dawson having told the Swans he wants out and back to SA without having a pretty fair idea of the lay of the land re the 2 SA clubs, in fact I'd be very surprised if he doesn't already have a pretty firm idea of what club he's heading to.

For what ever reason, it sounds like his head isn't where it needs to be.

Re Jordan Dawson - I don't know much about the intricacies of list management but is this a possibility? - we swap our first 2 draft choices with Richmond's. They get our pick 4 and we get their pick 7. In exchange we get their pick 15 and they get our pick 23. We get to keep a top 10 draft choice and offer pick 15 in exchange for Dawson.

I am concerned that Davies has come out and declared Port have "extreme interest", I certainly doubt he would say this if they weren't in the box seat.

It wouldn't be a good look for him to say this and then he comes to us, in fact, this sounds more like something we would do.
Im not reading that much into it

He was asked the question and he responded

He is not going to say that they luke warm interest

Davies is telling everybody no more than they already knew.
He's more likely just trying to distract the Port supporters threating to burn the club down after the shitshow they put up in the PF.

What I find interesting is that for Dawson to get to a decision to inform Sydney that he wants a trade he and his manager woukd have had some level if meaningful discussions with someone?

For Davies to say they are yet to have meaningful discussions are awaiting his decision on preferred club, I find that a little odd

Could have been a message stated directly to Dawson himself knowing the media would report on his exact words.

Trying to soften him up etc.
