A lot of half backs do

Yup, most of the defence a half back needs to do is playing as another interceptor.

Really, it's a position you can put someone who relatively inept defensively and you wouldn't get a whole lot of blowback from it. Likely nowhere near compared to the benefit you'd get by having a good ball user in that position.

We need a small forward who can apply pressure and hit the scoreboard

In theory Milera is perfect though he hasn't shown much at AFL level when he's played there.

Even him performing averagely though is a major upgrade on Murphy and Rowe
That small fwd has to have elite agility, sidestep, and acceleration .....those fwd pockets are the size of a phonebooth

PS ...you may need to explain to some posters what a phonebooth is

Milera to a tee

Milera to a tee
Milera has always struggled in that role ......he likes space to run, carry, and sidestep ...midfield or HBF

But don't box him in for space, it takes away his weapons

Did it as a junior, but you wouldn't have seen much of that.

Except I did.

And even with us, his work in traffic is very very good.
Yes he's good in tight, hence why IMO he needs to play midfield .....but all those clips of him sidestepping & weaving, have been in the midfield space, not a FP

You'll kill the lad if you want to play him as a small fwd

Do we go the 2 Academy players

"Blayne O'Loughlin, the nephew of Sydney great Michael, was South Australia's leading ball-winner with 22 disposals and was named his side's best while fellow Adelaide Next Generation Academy talent Isaiah Dudley booted three goals."

10 kick ins in those 22 disposals of O'Loughlin's, I think the judges must have looked at the stats sheet not watched the game, O'Loughlin played OK but not best on.

I can't see us taking either player now we've re-contracted Newchurch, Parnell and Borlase for a further season.

Most important lesson from the grand final today is when you draft good players, you absolutely MUST back them in at AFL level

Even if it means turfing senior players to the reserves. If your recruiting team says a player is good, uses a good pick on them, that must take precedent over experience and tenure

Jackson
Bowey
Pickett
Rivers
Sparrow

No messing around giving Pickett year after year in the twos to teach him how to defend, or telling Jackson to kick bags before a call up. Nope. They're just in the side. Bowey gets the call up in round 20 after being on the list for one year? No problem, you're playing all the finals son

Melbourne took 11 players in the 1st and 2nd rounds of the draft since 2017. 9 of them played in the grand final, with only two guys from the latest draft missing. That's every single first and second round pick from three consecutive drafts playing in the team.

It didn't ****ing matter that they had Nathan Jones, Neville Jetta, Jayden Hunt or Jake Melksham on their list. Or Mitch Brown, or Majak Daw, or Aaron Vandenberg or several other long career battlers.

Their recruiters said they picked talented players. They played those players as a priority. Now they have a flag

Can you see Adelaide doing the same in that position?

Very jealous, sitting here wondering when we will win our next premiership....the common theme of all winning premiership teams for god knows how long is they all have 1 or 2 elite midfielders that can turn the game on its head in crunch moments...when will we draft such a player or players...sigh

Well we haven't been doing that. We've gone in with the most experience we possibly could each week and only turn the list over at the end of the year.

With that said, because of our aggressive list culling, we have ended up in a similar position.

Fogarty, McPherson, Jones, McHenry, Hamill, McAsey, Schoenberg, Worrell, Thilthorpe, Pedlar, Cook, Berry and Rowe are our 1st and 2nd round picks since 2017. Most of these guys are now playing

The important part is when we bring in more guys the next couple of years. These elite draftees MUST play, even if it means sending Sloane or other underperforming or average senior players to the reserves.

We should have done that this year too. Guys like Worrell should have been playing instead of Jake Kelly.

I’m interested in the tenure of a list manager? You do not see too many of these positions being cast out.
Most people would identify my dissatisfaction with the current and his ties to previously.
it needs to be cut, immediately.

Jordan Dawson will get here easier if John Reid’s son, who used to be in the player management field just got the **** out. It it resourceless.

Not sure which clubs have used player agents as list managers but the 2 I know of were in bottom 4 this year.
