He hasn’t been offered a contract which indicates he is likely to be delisted (can obviously change during trade period)
If we are into him - which I don’t think we should be - then we may have an agreement to pick him up after trade period.

I just can't see why we'd have any interest at all in Dumont, he's basically played inside mid all his career until this year where he was played mostly wing and didn't set the World on fire. Reid seemed to stress other than Dawson and getting games into our youngsters we're hitting the draft again so I'm not seeing it.

Or maybe they have no particular interest in those they know are available currently?

Which is pretty much what Reid has said all along, getting the Dawson deal done is their focus along with hitting the draft again.
I'm sure it is a focus, but I also don't expect him to throw all the cards on the table.

I agree. I like that Reid indicated we need to expose the list. We have lots of potential but not many sure fire 10 year players yet. Next year we will know confidently that Jones McHenry Sholl Hamill MacPherson Fogarty etc will make it or not
We have plenty of B and B plus mids to get by. No need to bring more in

Dawson, elite or near elite players yes - small forward with X factor yes , other wise focus on what we have

Still reckon us trading McAsey as a compassionate trade (for a decent return though) can't be ruled out.

If we're talking about 4 trade discussions happening behind the scenes, prolly only about 1/3 or 1/4 comes off, so we might trade in 1 or 2 players at most.

Our normal MO is some player on the fringe of an existing team, not really getting an opportunity but that we've identified has potential, so I think there might be a couple of these behind the scenes, plus the more high profile rankine and cogs ones.

EDIT: I also wonder if we might have some multiclub proposals we could facilitate, ie fish to a vic team, the vic team has someone to say GC and GC send us someone we're keen on.

ANOTHER EDIT: I still have question marks over whether Berg might be a trade possibility.

Player swaps are pretty rare in the AFL, if we were going to ship off McAsey it will likely be picks.

I think the problem then becomes that he currently wouldn’t fetch us much value, we’d be lucky to get something around pick 30, to me there’s more value in rolling the dice that he comes good.

Yes he’s struggled so far, but he’s had one season where he was thrown to the wolves after a disjointed preseason, and his second year he had the family issue in the off season and then spent part of the year forward and part of it back. I think we’ll likely commit to one position for him next year, he’ll have a proper pre season training for it under the supervision of Burgess, and there’s a good chance we reap the reward. That represents far more value than pick 30 IMO.

Lewis Young wanting a trade from the Bulldogs, I still liked him as a tall key position player, was messed around by the Bulldogs in his career so far.

Would struggle to get a game for an SANFL league side. Even McAsey would outmuscle him.

Did I miss it Dumont has been delisted?
Makes those people a few pages back who rated him for finishing in NM top 5 a bit amateur.
Wooden spooners pulling a contract offer, doesn't get much more telling.
Obviously they're hoping to get a packet of chips for him.
If we avoid the temptation of spuds then the rebuild will happen pretty quickly

I hope we give McAsey more time.

If we ship him off and he clicks, we will look back and wonder why we ever thought otherwise.

If it doesn’t look like it’s coming together in the next 12 months, cut our losses.

Just hold and see, nothing to lose imo. It’s not like his value is sky high right now. He has a good year and wants to leave we get a better deal.

What makes you think we are shipping him off?

Reid seemed to be pretty positive on him the other day and talked about him being back at training. What’s clear though is he needs to make it as a forward because they’ve got other plans down back.

So, to recap -

Assuming we also cut ROC and Davis, we will have 5 main list spots and 1 category A rookie list spot available.

This actually seems like a good position for us to be in.

Personally, I'd only look to maybe three main list draftees. We have a lot of youth we're trying to serve. Grab a couple of traded in players and maybe have some decent sized bodies on our rookie list so we have some depth in the 2's. I'd be very happy for to grab a Lewis or McNeil as a rookie (and wouldn't bother with ROC).

Does that 5 include Dawson?

Yeah, I didn't include Dawson, other than assuming he'd be one of the two traded-in players.
Honestly, I don’t see us trading in two players

I see three picks at the draft, Dawson + upgrading Butts. Leaves us with two rookie slots (1 if we re-rookie ROC, which may or may not happen)

Largely agree - although Keays has worked out well as a gap-filler.

There is a distinct difference in gap-filler though and we found that out in the same rookie intake.
Keays went pick #24 in 2015- was 2x U18 AA + had exposed form at NEAFL level, playing out of position who was just desperately in need of midfield minutes.
Was 22 at the time with mountains of upside.

Then on the other side, we took Crocker who was pick 65 same year but reeked of good VFL player, but never cut it at the top level when played in position at Coll.

If we could only keep one of Davis and ROC, who would people prefer?
ROC. Davis has been on the list long enough. Much loved as he is, we know he's never going to make it at AFL level. ROC has only had 2 seasons, both of which have been severely disrupted. Unlike Davis, there's still a chance that ROC could make it, maybe not a good chance but better than the chances of Davis making it.

Well I'll go on record for mine McAsey needs to make it as a KPD because IMO he doesn't have the tricks to be a dominant AFL KPF.

Others may disagree but that's where I have him currently and it's pretty clear he was drafted with every intention of him replacing Talia who was already showing signs of wear and tear.

If we could only keep one of Davis and ROC, who would people prefer?
Davis, but only because I don't think either will make it long term and in this scenario I have to choose 1. For me Davis seems to be a much more positively influential clubman. Plus is an ok depth piece in multiple rolls, which makes him a good SANFL player, and could pitch hit as a useful medi-sub. There's value in that.

ROC is only really a tall inside mid, who's not lit the world on fire. He could still have a 3rd season surge, but I'm not sure he's gonna get the opportunity. So if we cut ties with him, I doubt most in here would even notice.

But to be honest if we kept both or didn't keep either i'm not gonna be losing any sleep

I don't see us moving on from McAsey this off-season. All the language around him is that he's had a steep learning curve after a challenging offseason last year and is determined to reset his course.

I think if he was trying to get home it would be pretty public by now.

Seems like a pretty focused kid, I wouldn't be surprised if he turns up on day 1 cut from glass this year. Last offseason would surely have hurt his pride!

If we could only keep one of Davis and ROC, who would people prefer?
I’ll go ROC for the same reasons as Vader. Davis has been around for long enough and only ever looks like a depth option. We also have plenty of options for half back.
I’m tipping Hately as a big improver if he gets his fitness right under Burgess, which puts ROC further back in the pecking order and assuming as well that we probably select 2 mids in this draft.
With reduced list sizes I’d probably delist both and use the one main list spot to select the best small forward available.
I hope that we see big improvement from Rowe and McAdam under Burgess, perhaps Newchurch. For mine we need greater pressure for spots in the small forward role and at this stage I’m not convinced any of those three guys are the solution.

Jake Kelly trade has gone through. We now await compo!

Definitely wouldn't keep either as Davis has some skills but just doesn't produce enough and had plenty of time to do so.
ROC doesn't have AFL skills and just his bigger mid body and tackling has kept him in the mix and has no real upside which is a real possibility we can gain draft where due to virus is a lottery.
