Trades

Richard Tambling from Richmond for Bock Compensation Pick

Sam Jacobs from Carlton for pick 33 & 67

Pick 61 from Fremantle for Jonathon Griffin

Adelaide's performance in Trade Week should be commended. Unlike other clubs who shall remain nameless have fallen into a trap of trading for alot of players with no plan in mind other then to be seen trading for the sake of trading and end up with a list full of B graders.

Adelaide identified a problem in the ruck and went about fixing it which was made easier with Sam Jacob's walking out of the Blues. We stuck to our trading guns and didnt budge from our offer which was made almost a week ago, probably even longer considering this was over two weeks in the making. Cant help think that this highlights the need for free agency but thats another issue.

Adelaide also identified a need for another midfielder with extreme pace and they successfully lured Richard Tambling from Richmond. Richmond deserve some acolades here for putting a players career above perhaps their own immediate onfield needs.

Pretty positive result in the end. A very good start in preparing what looks like a list that can go places in 2011.

How many empty spots are there left on our list?

Trying to work out what's going to go down with Jaensch and Schmidt.

Wasn't considering those as sensibly actionable unless we have a player available under technicality by sponsorship, which i've not heard of.
Have we anything else on the table or have we left?

I think we should use them to try a couple of mature age players. There are a couple of good ones in the sanfl that deserve a crack at afl. Ty Allen for example. Put a good pre season under him and see what he can do. even wait till the psd and put a solid month into them before hand.

There might be one more on the back burner waiting on a whole lot of other trades to go through first. I would doubt Adelaide would have not attempted to gain another player from somewhere. However the likely hood is thats us and both phil and Neil are already at Tullamarin

Terry Wallace reckons we've had an 'ordinary' trade week.

Does that automatically mean we've had a great week?

Pretty much!

Considering how he has practically burried Richmond for 5 years he would be the last person that you would want giving you approval (along with Chris McDermott).

He actually thinks that Tambling's best position as a HFF. No wonder the guy has not fulfilled his potential at the tigerland if his coach insisted he was best in a position that he was actually worst at

Nah it's just average from an outside perspective, the value of picks is defferent everywhere.
If all things were equal losing 33 and 50 when you could of really been pricks like Wallis considers par for the course looks like ordinary dealing.
He supports Carltons ridiculous stances.

The problem with alot of critics especially interstate ones is that they dont really know the quality of our list and base alot of their opinions on the one to two games they watched during the year and our ladder position.

I doubt he knows anything about Jacobs and his critism levelled at us for tambling would be in defence of his own inept coaching style that probably hindered tamblings development.

I think wallet is looking at it in the sense that 'well theyve lost Bock, Griffin and 2 second rounders and gained Tambling and Sauce' but I think we filled some needs with Tambling and Sauce, and in any case, I doubt it would've been more beneficial to us to keep our picks since I think we are at a point where we can get away with using only 2 picks and top up the rest by upgrading Hendo and Martin (and Schmidt too but I'm not a fan).

Plough thinks we've traded away too many pick, not considering the position of the picks. He struggles at times.
Agreed, we only really needed 2 picks. As long as one of them was pick 14 we will be fine. The other can/will be used possibly on a mature age recruit.

Was actually waiting for Plough to talk up how the new recruits will be playing with the big three of Edwards, McLeod and Goodwin.

Agree, I doubt he knows that Hendo, Jaensch and Schmidt, who all played for the Crows this year, are still Rookies, so can be upgraded instead of using draft picks.

BTW - Martin was upgraded last year - he's already on the senior list; just LTI for most of last year. :o

Now that would be a coaching duo.McDermott still thinks we should have picked wallace instead of Craigy.

We kept pick 14 will be even lucky to get a long term player with that pick.

Wallace is still shirty that it took longer to boil the kettle than we took to interview him.

So at the end of the day (as far as I can tell - and correct me if I'm wrong):

IN: Tambling, Jacobs, Henderson, Schmidt, Pick 14, Pick 61
OUT: Bock, Griffin, Goodwin, Edwards, Mcleod, Burton, Hentschel, Jacky

So this means we have 2 more spots on the list...Jaensch will surely be upgraded and we will have 3 picks.

Vader has done this somewhere but I think you are forgetting the Veteran's list factor which means we will have a pick or 2 less.

To be fair, we haven't left Rendell much to work with in the draft. It's pick #14 and (maybe) pick #61. That's it...

To counter that, we have a very young and inexperienced list. Just 8x 100+ game players, 16x 50+ game players and 18x 30+ game players. Missing out on one draft is probably not going to burn us too badly.

The senior list balance sheet is now:
OUT:
Edwards (retired)
Burton (retired)
Hentschel (retired)
Bock (defected)
Doughty (upgraded to veterans list)
Jacky (delisted)
Griffin (traded)
Total = 7

IN:
Henderson (upgraded from rookie list)
Tambling (traded)
Jacobs (traded)
Total = 3

We now have 4 positions left to play with. It's safe to say that we'll be doing 2 more rookie upgrades and using pick #14. That leaves one final decision - use pick #61 or upgrade a 4th rookie?

Henderson is the only rookie who has been formally upgraded so far. Schmidt remains on the rookie list, for now - though that will probably change by the end of the week (now that we have the certainty of knowing our trade week outcomes).
