Trying to make sense of it, why are we always having to do this with Nicks BTW?

I could see the club thinking Nankervis would be a great player to come on and have an impact as a sub. Which is a stupid argument, because any good player would make a great sub. Sam Walsh would make a great sub.

Logic isn't part of the clubs DNA.

There were 5 options within this 23 as sub.

1) Smith. Was sub last week. Defense looked great without him before he came on. When he came on he did absolutely nothing. Was lucky to be retained at all.

2) McHenry. Consistently outside our best 18 players in games he plays. His more acceptable performances have generally been as sub. He should either be in the SANFL, or the sub all the time.

3) Cook. Struggles to find the ball. No clear position. When he does get the ball he generally does something good with it. Would be interesting to see him in the sub role, and he was certainly less deserving of holding his spot in the 22 than Nank.

4) Sholl. Slow, no evasive skills, no tackling ability. These things are muted a bit when coming on once opponents are a bit tired. I’ve long thought Sholl could be a decent specialist sub.

5) Jones. Doesn’t get much ball. Could be used on any line if injected as sub. Strong physicality would be enhanced late in games.

We’ve somehow managed to go with the 6th of 5 options. Nankervis is the best wingman on our list and it’s really not close. Ludicrous selection.

There are times when being “managed” might be necessary, especially for a sub 20 gamer like Nank. 10 day break, 2 consecutive home games quite simply isn’t one of them.

Let’s just hope he can have the same sort of “impact” that vaulted Brodie Smith back into the 22 (ie 2 touches in 26% game time, with one of those touches playing on from a kick-in).

If they find a way to drop Nank to the SANFL next week and retain all the players listed above over him, we will have entered meltdown territory.
