I dont like ND either. But its very much like fantasy football h2h. Luck of scheduling people can score low but beat someone scoring lower while others score high and lose to a higher scorer. One person 3-1 as a low scorer. Another 1-3 as a high scorer.

But....I have a great idea to fix this next season. Will reveal later.

I have a fantastic idea as well
Pick your opponents - the score you get is based on your opponents ranking.
Think you can beat #1? If you do you get 84 points. If you fail you lose 84 points (or 42 points to make it fairer). Think you can beat #84? You get 1 point if you do or lose your dignity if you don't.
Last six weeks are double points, last week is triple points.

That and JD's idea to change the missing CR in a bye week from 16 to 1.

Alternatively you can do confidence ratings on your own tips
If you think you'll get into the top 10% you rate yourself a 10
If you think you will be in the top 50% you rate yourself a 5

My idea was more keeping the ND idea but fixing it up.

But I think we need some new ideas. Either replacing ND entirely for a better concept. Or fixing up ND and introducing more new comps....as long as they're very different and fun

I can see what you mean by fixing ND to balance it a little however I still see it as a fun competition where anything can happen and that's what I love about it. I would prefer to see divisions cemented from season to season to create a rivalry and more wildcard options to give more people a chance to win.

Why I have an idea just to fix ND. But it stays as a comp, retain history.

But I reckon adding more new comps is cool. Temptation is easily my favorite. 3xko next favorite. Cos theres thinking and skill involved. Multiple layers.

I like ND. Is there a provision for wildcards into the finals for those that score high and get beaten by their draw?

I love ND even with the 2-10 season last year. I've used it in my very little AFL tipping comp with a few mates and it's great fun.

Agree entirely Bucketss, I love ND (and at the moment I have a reason to hate it), and like you I started my own AFL confidence tipping league this season with ten participants and they loved it. It's like real sports, it doesn't matter how consistent you are on any given day if you come up against a rampant opposition you can lose.
