Anyways if we want to trade a player out to get a Kennedy or Menzel I'd rather we traded Douglas. At least he has some currency ( though it'd be a valid argument to say he is probably getting to old), Wright, Lyons don't have currency, definitely not the sort that'd land us Kennedy
The problem with trading Dougie is now that Bernie is gone he's one of our few decent senior players. Once you remove the Thommo/Rutten cohort of experienced players in their 30s it drops down to just vB at 28 (by no means certain best 22) then down to a handful of 27 year olds who will form our experienced core very soon.
van Berlo* 28 (182 games)
Betts 27 (198 games)
Douglas 27 (147 games)
After that our experience drops away fairly rapidly
Jacobs 26 (96 games)
MacKay 25 (118 games)
Henderson 25 (56 games)
Martin 25 (27 games)
Otten 25 (74 games)
Jenkins 25 (40 games)
Dangerfield 24 (123 games)
Sloane 24 (92 games)
Walker 24 (76 games)
Jaensch 24 (59 games)
Wright 24 (71 games)
Below this point no one has 50 games bar Talia and Smithers (both 68).
So, with Thommo, Rutten, Reilly, Porplyzia etc on their last legs, Vince gone and van Berlo iffy, I think Dougie's experience is more valuable to us than what we would get at the trade table.
Let's also not forget that he almost took out the B&F last year and is currently coming off a busted scrotum.
If I was looking to trade anyone best 22 atm it would be Otten. Not because I don't like him. I love the Ottmeister, but he has value as a proven swing man yet we can cover him both for experience (numerous guys at similar age and games played) and position (Hendo in the swing man role or LT in defence).
That said, there is no need imo. Kennedy trade doesn't fill a need nor is he classy enough to dislodge an incumbent, so not worth Otto, and Menzel will shortly re-sign at Carlton.

) for rock-solid Edwards/Goodwin types.
