Frampton so far above SANFL level it’s not funny. Showing again just how stupid we were not to persist with him. Clearly wanting him to learn his craft in the SANFL, but gee he’s a waste there

We didn't pick him when we only had Murray as our single KPD at AFL level.

Will be first delisted at the end of the year.

Frampton should come in for Doedee as our floating 3rd tall in defense..

Especially if doedee continues his current form..
This is Framptons position, as the 3rd tall down back.
If Doedee wasn't one of the 'untouchables' Billy could quite easily play that role
Probably delisted at the end of the year but I wouldn't be surprised to see another club take a punt on him for this role

Crouch the ball magnet

Matt Crouch was dominant in the midfield and finished with a game-high 42 disposals.

SANFL Coach Mick Godden was pleased with Crouch’s performance and in particular his leadership.

“The most important thing is when a player comes in like that, they do the things that are required by the team and I thought Matt did that all day,” Godden said.

“The statistics are big because he is a great player but it was also what he did off the ball, around the contest to organise players.”

Crouch also kicked a goal, along with laying six tackles, 10 clearances and seven inside 50s.

Aerial Frampton

Billy Frampton displayed his marking ability from the outset, intercepting South Adelaide’s forward entries to finish with a season-high 14 marks.

Frampton led the way down back with Godden labelling it the best performance he had seen from the key defender.

“Aerially he was outstanding, he just read the ball really well but he also defended strongly,” Godden said.

“He won his one-on-one contests and that’s probably the best I’ve seen him defend as a genuine defender.”

Frampton finished with 22 disposals, three contested marks and six rebound 50’s.

Newchurch provides the spark

Tariek Newchurch was at his scintillating best against the Panthers, with his two first quarter goals keeping Adelaide in the game early.

Playing more time on the wing and around the ball, Newchurch was able to use his pace and agility to impact the game with 19 disposals.

“He’s had a few quiet ones so today was a great break out game,” Godden said.

“He could have had a couple more goals, giving some off and over ran one in the second.

“He has the attributes that could give something exciting at AFL level.

“The challenge being he’s got areas of his game which we have been working on because you don’t want to get exposed at the higher level.”

Sharrad BOG in 100th game

In his 100th SANFL game, hard-nosed midfielder Louis Sharrad had his best performance of the season, with the coach naming him best on ground.

Sharrad capped off a memorable day with 29 disposals, six marks, six tackles and 10 clearances.

“It’s just great for a player like him,” Godden said.

“His SANFL career had pretty much stalled.

“For him to have that opportunity to come back and play in a team like this, and really bring his own unique style to it is pleasing.

“He played with a really good heart today and that’s what he’s been brought here to do.”

McPherson finding form

Andrew McPherson looked back to his best and he was a valuable contributor.

“He had a bit of an injury interrupted start to the season and he’s worked his way back into some really good form and that was Macca’s best game by far today,” Godden said.

“He was really good above his head, he pressed the game when he needed to and used the ball well.

“As a back six, that’s the best we’ve defended all year.”

McPherson collected 30 disposals, as well as eight marks.

You're saying that as if our coaches haven't missed a beat with selections all year
He has 5-6 games experience of AFL as a defender but he continually shows he has some good skills down back.
Some of his 1 v1 work is poor, but we are hanging him on a game against Carlton when they had 69 inside 50's

Well its ok to say delist Frampton and Himmelberg but we are low on KPP currently having to use Doedee and Dawson in wrong positions and this week have Tex and Fog as our only talls up forward and who the hell is going to be support ruck.
Going against very strong opinions on this site I would have had Frampton in defence this week leaving Doedee to do Dawson role so he could play on wing .
Ok to say Frampton can't defend but least has size to be there unlike our smaller defenders contesting but lacking in height and strength and he can take a contested mark and actually pass the ball to a Crows player .

Luke Brown not doing anything today to say I'm an AFL footballer.
Parnell will need to be pretty poor for him to get his spot back

After what Mick Godden did to destroy Chayce Jones's development.. why is he still at the club?

The difference in tone between his review of the senior players & Newchurch tells you everything you need to know about this club. Kid just kicked 4.3 from 19 touches and somehow Godden managed to fit 3 negatives into 4 sentences.

The last sentence reads like he’s trying to poor cold water on a debut already

Both your comment and 1990’s are really spot on here. Godden should just be giving 100% praise here after an impressive game and dispense with the shit sandwich!
My perception is Godden can manage some types of players quite well, but really miss the mark with others (like Newchurch and Jones). Not sure if this is Godden’s personal style or whether it is a club wide thing.

I hope Tariek debuts this wk.

I would be delisting one two of our short people, we have too many. As for backs we have a real shortage

Yeah yeah...
We've all had our fun with Billy the whipping boy. The criticism of him is probably fair enough.

But when I accurately describe him as a 200cm+, mobile player with excellent foot skills, and features frequently in the best players at SANFL level, you have to be REALLY sure before you show him the door.

As a trade target, I think clubs will come for Billy as they will recognise these traits and will back in their system to get out of Billy more than AFC could.

We're not famous anymore for our player development.

I also think Berg of the two big guys should go first.
Don't be fooled by his SANFL form. We have done this dance before.

Also I'd confidently wager no AFL club picks him up.

As a WWTFC member, I think you will find it is Godden. He was very one dimensional at the club and his failure to adapt cost the club flags in 2015, 2016 and 2017 when it was the dominant club in the SANFL (3 minor premierships, 2 Grand Finals but no flags). He had favourite players no matter how they fared and played the same type of football week in week out, basically had no flexibility.

Know one of his ex players that played at stoppages, loved the guy but one dimensional

Saw this game as a neutral yesterday, thought the product was very good, enjoyed the commentary and geez, Adelaide ran completely over the top in that last half.

You know it always puzzles me how people have their favourites and dislikes and are blinded to anything else,
Like Frampton or hate him,
In a team that's screaming for decent Kicking and delivery, Frampton is one of the best they have on the list.
Yes he needs to work on his one-on-one, but anyone who constantly watches the SANFL would have seen improvements in that area.

When he gets the ball in hand he is one of the best at delivering the ball forward, in the current AFL team that alone is a need.
At this time we have Butts great in one on ones, but his delivery is not the best and Murray average in one-on-one but delivery not so good.

Doesn't surprise me with a midfielder like Sloane who gets beaten around pretty badly. A small defender though? That's concerning.
It happens to all players.

Johncock is a good example of a small defender that this happened to.

It's also very normal.

That's why we always have to be thinking about this and have options that are ready instead of trying to bleed our players dry.

Johncock was lax with his physical standards though. That's a bad example.

Bit harsh on Jordy Butts there, going at 87.2% disposal efficiency in 2022 and only averaging one clanger a game.
